UND 16-37 UTAH

  • NConf Record: 4-9
    Overall: 4-11

    vs. FCS: 1-0
    Overall: 1-1

Best Performance: Portland St. 32, (FBS) Oregon St. 35 - The Viks dominated rushing and possession time, but a pick-six & a missed field goal cost them a 2nd. Pac-12 upset in 3 years.

Worst Performance: Southern Utah 21, (FBS) Oregon 77 - The Ducks could be back to what they were 2+ years ago, I suppose, but allowing 703 yards and 77 points to anyone is not what Southern Utah or their fans have come to expect.

Most Surprising Result: Northern Arizona 24, (FBS) Arizona - The 'Jacks put up 562 yards, but they could only manage 10 points in 6 redzone trips.

Southland

HBU 11-20 TXST

  • NConf Record: 1-8
    Overall: 1-8

    vs. FCS: 1-0
    Overall: 1-0

Best Performance: (#3) Sam Houston St. 48, (#7) Richmond 34 - The Bearkats don't let last season's semifinal humiliation affect them as they score 35 second-quarter points against the projected CAA runner-up.

Worst Performance: Incarnate Word 0, (FBS) Fresno St. 66 - The Cardinals are outgained 613-148 by one of the very worst teams in FBS from last season.

Most Surprising Result: Southeastern Louisiana 48, (FBS) Louisiana-Lafayette 51 - The Lions ran all over the Rajin' Cajuns, but they couldn't hold on to the ball during a key two-point-conversion try late.

Missouri Valley

MVSU 7-72 NDSU
SDK 77-7 DRAKE
DUQ 13-51 SDKST

YSU 21-28 PITT (OT)

  • NConf Record: 5-4
    Overall: 5-4

    vs. FCS: 5-1
    Overall: 5-1

Best Performance: (#4) South Dakota St. 51, Duquesne 13 - Taryn Christion throws 5 TD passes, 4 of them to Jake Wieneke, in this surprisingly ugly beatdown.

Worst Performance: Indiana St. 20, Eastern Illinois 22 - LeMonte Booker runs for 154 yards in an otherwise unimpressive performance by the Sycamores.

Most Surprising Result: (#9) Youngstown St. 21, (FBS) Pittsburgh 28 (OT) - Poor kicking & punting finished them off, but the Penguins still played the Panthers tough for the 3rd. consecutive time.

OVC

SEMO 16-38 KU
EIU 22-20 INST
EKU 17-31 WKU
kywes 7-67 MUR
TSU 17-10 GSU

AP 14-26 CIN

  • NConf Record: 4-4
    Overall: 5-4

    vs. FCS: 1-1
    Overall: 2-1

Best Performance: Tennessee St. 17, (FBS) Georgia St. 10 - Tigers get their first I-A/FBS win since dropping down to I-AA in the '80s.

Worst Performance: Tennessee Tech 14, (#25) Western Illinois 41 - Nothing went right here as the Golden Eagles were outrushed 298-0 and dominated in many other stats, as well.

Most Surprising Result: Austin Peay 14, (FBS) Cincinnati 26 - Could the Governors actually be competitive this year, or is Cincinnati really that bad?

Pioneer League

wnmu 20-34 USD
SDK 77-7 DRAKE
VALPO 23-45 UMT
BUT 0-45 ILST
DAY 10-13 RMU
MARIST 6-45 BUCK

kcu 14-56 MHEAD

  • NConf Record: 4-7
    Overall: 4-7

    vs. FCS: 0-7
    Overall: 0-7

Best Performance: Valparaiso 23, Montana 45 - It's too early to know if this result means much, but the Crusaders did have the Griz on the ropes for 40 minutes.

Worst Performance: Marist 6, Bucknell 45 - The Red Foxes fall to 1-12 against Bucknell in what was the most lopsided meeting in the series.

Most Surprising Result: Drake 7, South Dakota 77 - I know the Missouri Valley is better than the Pioneer, but… come on, it's not 70 points better.

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

DAY 10-13 RMU
anselm 7-37 WAG
mermck 41-49 BRY

Most Surprising Result: Duquesne 13, (#4) South Dakota St. 51 - For the second straight year, the Dukes lay an egg when given a chance to prove their worth against a Missouri Valley team.

CAA

NOVA 38-35 LEH
ALB 17-31 ODU
SBU 17-31 USF
MAINE 23-24 UNH

Best Performance: (#1) James Madison 34, (FBS) East Carolina 14 - Cardon Johnson runs for 265 yards and 5 touchdowns on just 17 carries as the Dukes keep dominating

Worst Performance: Maine 23, (#13) New Hampshire 24 - Black Bears begin CAA play in a hole after missing 2 field goals and a late extra point.

Most Surprising Result: Rhode Island 27, (FBS) Central Michigan 30 (3OT) - Not only did Rhode Island scare an FBS team, they somehow did it while tossing 6 interceptions.

Big South

LAF 12-31 MONM
NCAT 45-3 GWEBB
CHSO 0-49 MSST
PRESBY 7-51 WF
KENN 23-28 SAM

    vs. FCS: 1-2
    Overall: 1-2

Worst Performance: Gardner-Webb 3, North Carolina A&T 45 - The Bulldogs are outpassed 341-34 in a pathetic defeat.

Most Surprising Result: Gardner-Webb 3, North Carolina A&T 45 - Gardner-Webb was actually favored in this game.

SoCon

VMI 0-62 AF
WCU 18-41 HAW
FUR 23-24 WOFF
newb 14-31 CIT

    vs. FCS: 2-0
    Overall: 2-1

Best Performance: (#19) Samford 28, Kennesaw St. 23 - Making relatively few mistakes helps the Bulldogs win a game in which they were dominated in both yardage & possession time.

Worst Performance: VMI 0, (FBS) Air Force 62 - The Keydets are blown off the field, losing yardage 663-95.

Most Surprising Result: (#11) Wofford 24, Furman 23 - Furman isn't supposed to be any good this year, so this result may be concerning for the Terriers.

Tomorrow: Non-Playoff Folks…

Worst Performance: Mississippi Valley St. 7, (#2) North Dakota St. 72 - The Delta Devils are outgained 683-58 and somehow lose even worse than they did in Missoula last year.

Most Surprising Result: (#21) Grambling 14, (FBS) Tulane 43 - After nearly upsetting Arizona in 2016, it seems odd that the Tigers would be handled so easily by a perennial bottom-feeder like Tulane.

Independents

No independents this year… again.

GA State is FBSINO....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
