The Dangers of Jogging in Iowa

Postby SunCoastBlueHen » Wed Apr 14, 2010 4:47 pm

GRINNELL, Iowa -- Four Grinnell College students out for a run Tuesday were caught outside in a hail storm and had to be taken to the hospital.

"They thought it was a tornado, which a lot of us thought it was a tornado. So they laid in the ditch, which was a good idea but they were just getting the tar beat out of them and the ditches were filling with water, so they knew they couldn't stay there," said Crawford. The students were covered in red welts after being pounded by the hail.

You have to be a total lunatic to be outside doing anything in Iowa. I guess some people just get what they deserve. :ohno:

How does this make them dumb?
They were out running, and a sudden storm rolls in with extreme hail.
what exactly were they supposed to do in that situation?

Or pay attention to your surroundings and notice the sky might be looking a little ominous?

And you can tell that they aren't Iowans because hail would not dare leave a mark on an Iowan.

Sounds like they were cross country runners. And when running out in the country, there is often very little shelter around. They did eventually find shelter in an empty house. But of course, that's risky in itself, as there could be one of those crazy gun nuts who feel it is their right to shoot anyone that steps foot on their property.
(granted, we don't have near as many of those types as, say, Montana. but still)

Given that Montana has a lower murder rate than Iowa, I'd say you're wrong. Plus, most of our nuts are imported from elsewhere (Unibomber)

I didn't know you were considered a nut for shooting **** that came onto your property these days. The murder rate will drop even lower now that I know this. I mean usually I just shoot anyone that comes on my property for safety reasons and not just the criminals breaking in or something like that.

Ah, there is an upside to Jay enlightening me though. I have a nearly insurmountable stack of mailmen, UPS Driver's, and so on the front porch so once they decay I should be able to start clearing a path to the door again.

Thanks for the "heads up" Jay. :thumb:

This is the second time this week someone from Iowa doesn't use the proper terminology. Is it it is it not Iowegian?

I can't say I've ever heard someone use Iowegian, unless it was out of jest. According to The United States Government Printing Office Style Manual it is officially Iowan.

I don't know. I searched for Iowegians and all I found were the posts on this thread and a post by DJH (I believe) where he said Iowans/Iowegians.

In most cases yes, but I believe an Iowan started the hailstorm when that happens, everyone is at the mercy of Iowa and all other rules cease to apply.
