Also - the message has been distorted. The players are kneeling during the National Anthem to protest the treatment of blacks (I don't quite understand that logic but that's it.) They are NOT protesting the national anthem or the flag. It's not a matter of patriotism.
Besides - you'd think this would be something that the right would love. Look at these people exercising their 1A right to peacefully protest. It's a great lesson.

Zero stickiness due to civil rights 1A violation. Take the NFL out of at. What career field at work, in uniform, representing employer do you have a 1A right to protest? If you have a ‘right’ to protest it will be due to an employee or union contract, rules set forth by the employer, not the 1A.Ibanez wrote:I thins that's a sticky situation and potentially violating someone's civil rights by saying they can't kneel.BDKJMU wrote: No you wouldn’t, because there is no 1st Amendment right to protest in this instance. Now if the players had been saying they had a right to kneel because it wasn’t specifically prohibited in their union contract (although I thought the NFL game day field manual said everyone had to stand) then that would be one thing. But they kept on bringing up this non existent at work IA right.

If it is a government issue yes. They are employees and can be told not to kneel. Employees do not have that right. If the NFL had fined Kaepernick when he knelt the first time, this would have gone away then.Ibanez wrote:I thins that's a sticky situation and potentially violating someone's civil rights by saying they can't kneel.BDKJMU wrote: No you wouldn’t, because there is no 1st Amendment right to protest in this instance. They're saying they can't engage in speech that is contrary to the organization's mission (making money)- there is a load of precedent favoring the NFLIbanez wrote:I thins that's a sticky situation and potentially violating someone's civil rights by saying they can't kneel.BDKJMU wrote: No you wouldn’t, because there is no 1st Amendment right to protest in this instance. private employers are generally not constrained from limiting "speech" except in cases involving union activities
private companies fire people all the time for "speech" - see the woman who flipped the bird at Arlington Nat Cemetery that time and posted it on social media

Does your employer take money from another company, then march you all out to sing that company's song every day before you go to work?BDKJMU wrote:No you wouldn’t, because there is no 1st Amendment right to protest in this instance. Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread
This belongs in the political forum but I'll go ahead and say it's ridiculous. Yes, a private organization has a right to say that those associated with it must behave in certain ways in order to be associated with it.
But the fact that this is an issue is a problem. I mean the fact that there is this cultural thing where people have to treat an inanimate object like a flag as though it's an idol. Yes I know that the claim is that it's disrespect for what the flag represents. But what the flag represents is liberty; including people being free to say what they want and express their opinions without fear of reprisal.
It is sad that we have enough people in this country who would give a shit if NFL players kneel during the National Anthem to allow for a situation like this to develop.

It might be my experience but I know people that have joined a protest, all while wearing company shirts. That was 1 year ago and they are still working with me. standby for what the protest was about and we'll have our answer to that one
the employer choosing not to jack them up doesn't mean they cant

It was white people. And I don't recall, to be honest. It wasn't police brutality or immigration. Might've been a pipeline, but we finance the pipelines. So I don't know. I just remember people leaving the building and joining in.CID1990 wrote:Mmm hmmIbanez wrote: It might be my experience but I know people that have joined a protest, all while wearing company shirts. but it is irrelevant - your employer elected not to pursue it... and why would they? protests arent costing them those government contracts
if they do, watch your protester colleagues cleaning out their desks on the same day

I remember. It was the corner of Trade and Tryon and I think they were protesting a group of young people that were "marching" against the military and immigrants. There was a Arab man there that served in the USMC and he was counter protesting. I work in InfoSec which hires a lot of veterans and people from the DoD world.93henfan wrote:NegroesCID1990 wrote:

So I guess they were counter protesting. I'm pretty sure that's what it was. It was near work, which usually, the protesters target Bank of America, Wells Fargo, BB&T. The only other protest around us that I can remember is when a group of black guys, in military garb, were railing against white people.

Oh. I thought there was some sort of negro uprising in Charlotte a year or so ago.
I can't keep track of all the negroes who resist arrest and then are shocked when they get their shit corrected by a cop.

Like I said, it's my experience. Anecdotal. I understand and don't deny what everyone here has said. I'm practical - but I also understand the environment our country is in right now. Not too many people are going to get fired for joining in on a protest for someone hot topic like Police Brutality or Immigration Reform.CID1990 wrote:rightIbanez wrote:

There was...but that was at night. September 2016. They marched on I77 and into Uptown, to the intersection of Trade & Tryon. That's where they went looting, beating white people and even killed a black man.93henfan wrote:Oh. I thought there was some sort of negro uprising in Charlotte a year or so ago.
