Indeed - only the Browns can blow having 2 of the first 4 picks in a draft. That's why they're the Browns. Brutal.93henfan wrote:It’s truly amazing.Chizzang wrote:

Absolutely beautiful:
1. Witten states interest in retiring to be MNF analyst.
2. Dallas needs a TE.
3. Eagles trade up one spot ahead of Dallas and draft a TE named Dallas.
4. David Akers announces the pick and just skewers the Dallas fans, and I quote: "Hey Dallas. The last time you were in the Super Bowl, these draft picks weren't born."

IMO Mayfield is the best QB of the 4. If he was their guy they didn't want to risk him not being there at 4. The Ward pick was the headscratcher. One shot down corner is great but a dominant pass rusher makes your whole D backfield better.Chizzang wrote:The Browns could have gotten Saquon Barkley and a QB... Lauletta to the Giants, who are having one helluva draft, IMHO.
They'll have perhaps the best RB in the league and the heir-apparent to Eli with tremendous upside.

I disagree on the assessment of Mayfield
Every year there are few guys like him that are available in the draft
and nobody seems to be able to turn them into starting NFL quarterbacks
And just to be clear he's considerably slower than Russell Wilson
and about the same size without quite as much arm strength
He won't beat Tyrod Taylor out of a job ever...
but that doesn't mean he won't start games

Best player in the draft Barkley
They stole Lorenzo Carter / Some folks had him just below Chubb as the best defensive lineman
and the Lauletta pick was perfect

Re: RE: Re: NFL DRAFT!!!!!
I respect your opinion but disagree with it. Drafting a QB in the 1st round is a crapshoot. Every year there are a few guys like (insert name or type here) that don't turn out the way the experts thought they would. All 4 of the QBs had shortcomings/warning signs. Mayfield is small, slow, doesn't have the greatest arm and he's an asshole but he fvcking wins and I place more value on that than Rosen's perfect passes or Allen's strong arm. Darnold was a safer pick. I would have picked Watson over Trubisky or Mahomes last year for the same reason. Is there a good chance I'm wrong - yes but there's also a good chance that the other three are busts.Chizzang wrote:Meh...UNI88 wrote:IMO Mayfield is the best QB of the 4. He'll have a short career

Packers got their CB's they wanted. Concentrated on D, WR and got a punter.
After watching Sam Houston against the Bison last year, was surprised with how high PJ Hall was drafted.

So it's a question of whether Mayfield's follows his intelligence or competitive desire. If he does the smart thing, he learns to play in the pocket a lot more. If he lets his competitive desire get the best of him and try to make a play every time then he has a brief but possibly glorious career (ala RG III). I agree with that assessment.Chizzang wrote:In my opinion Mayfield has one chanceUNI88 wrote: I respect your opinion but disagree with it. Drafting a QB in the 1st round is a crapshoot. Good point. Breaking the pocket early can also be an inability to make reads and quickly process information. There are three things that make a quality NFL quarterback:Chizzang wrote:In my opinion Mayfield has one chanceUNI88 wrote: I respect your opinion but disagree with it. Accuracy
Ability to process information fast
Minimize turnovers.
It's why Drew Brees is one of the greats while Jamarcus Russel went nowhere.
That's also my concern with Lauletta. He has the measurables but he was a turnover machine in college.

1) Read the ENTIRE defense before the snap including line protections and DB schemeskalm wrote:Good point. Breaking the pocket early can also be an inability to make reads and quickly process information. There are three things that make a quality NFL quarterback:Chizzang wrote:

2) Know where everybody running a rout is supposed to be after 3 or 5 step drop
3) understand that a check down is the final read
4) Control the line backers with your head and eyes
5) Audible out of your play when the defense has the correct blitz called

Some of the scouts mentioned his progress from last year, playing in the pocket more, as the reason he went from 2-3 round pick prior to the season, to a first round pick this year.UNI88 wrote:So it's a question of whether Mayfield's follows his intelligence or competitive desire.
