Seriously though. Can you imagine having to move from L.A. to fucking DETROIT??
I think I'd retire first. Didn't the dude have a no trade clause? Or at least a block capability on certain cities?

Re: Blake Griffin is now a Detroit Piston!!!!!
He didn’t have one. He signed a 5 year contract in July and rather than demanding a no-trade he asked for more money in his 5th year player option...he will earn 38+m in 2021-22
LA sold him in being the face of the franchise and the future of LA. He stayed in LA rather than taking other offers.
Yeah, he done fucked to with that contract. But at least he’s making 33m average his next 3.5 years in Detroit. Downside for him is he will be 32 when his current dean is up and he opts out of that 5th year. Not many big deals for a 32-33 year old power forward who is really only an athletic player, not an actual skill based player.

I hope they prove me wrong, but this looks like a shitty trade for the Pistons.

Re: Blake Griffin is now a Detroit Piston!!!!!
It's a bad trade in that it does not put Detroit in a spot to legitimately play for a championship. They might make the playoffs this year, but even this trade doesn't guarantee that. And they gave up a #1 pick in this trade as well (there are trade protections if the pick falls in the 1-4 range, but it won't fall there). They would either need to be able to move Griffin again (unlikely) or pick up more pieces for this to not be a bad trade. Right now, they might be the 8th best team in the East. That's a lot of money to tie up for that position with little hope, barring another move, to be any better than that.AshevilleApp wrote:I hope they prove me wrong, but this looks like a shitty trade for the Pistons.

If he were the final (or nearly) piece of the puzzle, I'd be okay with it. But they aren't close to contending as far as I can tell.
Re: Blake Griffin is now a Detroit Piston!!!!!
Upon further inspection I’m not sure Blake could have gotten a no trade. A no trade requires 8 years in the league with at least the last 4 at your current team.
This is his 8th year in the league. I don’t know that would have qualified him for the no trade.
Then again he missed his true rookie season with an injury. So this was his 9th year in LA but since he didn’t play at all in 2009-2010. He was ROY in 10-11 so I’m not sure how that all actually works with a contract.

Who did the Clippers get? I would’ve held out for Dumars, Thomas, Mahorn, and Laimbeer.

While this is true, watching the NBA before the All-Star game is pretty much meaningless.clenz wrote:Growing significantly in viewership actually.

They got an Avery Bradley, who may benefit from the change in scenery as he was good for Boston before this year and then has not delivered in Detroit. They also got a 1st round pick (top 4 protected). Although that pick will likely be in the middle teens so I'm not sure it's a real difference maker.Ivytalk wrote:Who did the Clippers get? Meh. MLB is a little different, and the players in the all-star game actually do play hard. But for the most part you're right.clenz wrote:Any sport before the halfway point can say that.andy7171 wrote: While this is true, watching the NBA before the All-Star game is pretty much meaningless.
