It's the actual way the game is played today that has take away from the product. Bettman has brought the money and corporate atmosphere to the hockey arena's. Hockey was the last hurrah for a fans friendly sport before he took over. Used to be able to sit outside the arena and watch the players enter, and interact with them after the games. Seats against the glass were affordable for the average Joe.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I went to tons of Flyers games in the 70's and 80's and there is no real difference in the things you describe. Here they allow anyone down on the glass during warm-ups. The players toss pucks to the kids around the bench afterwards. I don't ever recall a time where the average Joe sat on the glass... BTW, those seats suck anyway. Fun for the experience, but actually suck for viewing.

The Caps are always around the community doing things and are easy to find IF you actually want to find them. Their practices are open to the public. I've taken the players from my HS team and we always get pics with the players.

No kidding. I'd rather watch paint dry for 48 minutes. Only sport I know where the last 60 seconds on the clock can take 25 minutes to get through.

I do find it more interesting than watching 3 hours and 19 minutes of commercials and huddles to see 11 minutes of game being played.

I guess that's only true if you operate under the assumption that "action" only happens AFTER the ball has been snapped.

Well there’s lots of strategy that occurs before the ball is snapped. Only simpletons require the ball to be moving for it to be considered “action”.

That's the difference, football players have to stop play for strategy, while other sports multitask while the game is in process.

If you have NOT experienced the Phoenix Open, i would put it very high on your bucket list. There truly is no other sporting event like it.

recorded the first few minutes of the super bowl to watch the playoff hole. Kind of went back and forth like the Super Bowl in the final quarter.

On Saturday, they said it takes 4 months to erect the stands on the 16th hole and 2 months to take them down.

WTF? They are sitting on dirt. Might as well just leave them up until the contract runs out, no? Would be pretty cool to hit that shot even without the fans in the stands.

Before they completely surrounded #16, one of the best spots on the golf course was that hill with the white tent on the top. You could watch #16 tee shots (from the green), you could see players tee off on #17 (tee box in bottom left), you could watch approach shots on #10 (green in bottom of pic) and watch tee shots off of #11...all without moving.

Now, not so much.
