They went the route of three defensemen (not sure if anyone took the other option). They protected Carlson, Orlov and Niskanen but in reality Schmidt was the #2 D man IMO. The fact that he was going to be a free agent I'm sure had a lot to do with it. Orlov and Nisky are both under contract for 4-5 years.

Believe me, there were plenty of current teams whose GM probably had nightmares over this for months.

Congrats to the Caps.

But this feels like the Cubs and Red Sox winning the World Series and breaking long droughts.
It ruins the fun for everyone. :(

The Golden Knights? Their first season and they go all the way to the Finals?

Jeez - you sorta hope that win it all . :fuel: :stir: :stir:

Meanwhile - you're team name is the Golden Knights and your mascot is a Gila monster? :dunce:

 That's kinda how I felt about the Eagles winning the SB. Could this be my year? IF the Caps were to win the Cup, I'm putting my retirement funds on the Nats. ;)

End of Times when a first year team possibly wins the cup.

How I wish that there were more
Than the twenty-four hours in the day
'cause even if there were forty more
I wouldn't sleep a minute away
Oh, there's black jack and poker and the roulette wheel
A fortune won and lost on ev'ry deal
All you need's a strong heart and a nerve of steel
Viva Las Vegas, viva Las Vegas

Maybe another player, but not Carlson. There's no flopping in him. :tothehand:

Little cross-check compared to Wilson's hit on Marchessault. The Wilson hit was a little more blatant, should have been a 5 minute major, IMO. Refs gave him 2 minutes. Wilson should, but won't get suspended.

Debatable on the 5 minute and suspension. But he did get 2 and it had zero impact on that play. So while the hit was harder, it had FAR less impact on the game. It's also worth noting the refs did NOT call the penalty on Wilson until after the scrum.

FWIW, it's EXTREMELY rare to get a 5 minute interference call (there is no 5 minute roughing call). You'd be hard pressed to find a single one called this year (regular season too).

You were 100% correct there.

https://www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/nhl- ... chessault/
Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson reportedly will not be suspended for a late blindside hit on Jonathan Marchessault in the third period Monday night in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, per ESPN. The hit, which was called interference after Marchessault was sent to the locker-room to undergo concussion protocol, was made after Marchessault made a pass up the ice.
