I think the best thing for the Caps this season is to have to fight for a playoff spot all the way through the last game, and NOT as the #1 seed. Obs they can't handle that sort of pressure come the playoffs. And I may be wrong (not gonna look it up) but I imagine that home-ice isn't that much of an advantage for them either.

Hasn't been an advantage in the playoffs but last year they were 32-7-2 at home and 23-12-6 on the road. 66 v 52 points is significant IMO.

Last place Minnesota Wild, complete back to back shutouts against the Philadelphia Flyers. Devan Dubnyk pitches third straight shutout overall.

Man convicted in killing over New Jersey Devils hat comment
PHILADELPHIA — A man was convicted of stabbing another man to death near a popular Philadelphia park because of a comment about the killer’s New Jersey Devils hat.

Philly.com reported Wednesday that 42-year-old Steven Simminger was convicted of first-degree murder for the 2016 killing of 24-year-old Colin McGovern in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square.

One of McGovern’s friends testified that he said something along the lines of “screw the Devils” before Simminger stabbed McGovern 10 times.

Halfway through the season Colorado has 47 points and are sitting in the second wildcard spot in the west. Not too shabby after finishing last season with only 48. 8-)
Also, MacKinnon haa evolved into a beast, and his line with Landeskog and Rantanen is one of the best in the league.

Caps in a familiar place. Atop the Metro. They need to find a way to finish lower and still make the playoffs.

Avs go for 10 straight against the Leafs tonight. They haven't trailed for a single minute during their 9 game win streak.

Yes. They defeated the New Jersey Devils in 7 games to win the 2001 Stanley Cup.

Seems like each of the Metro teams are taking their turn streaking up and down. Devils are in second but have the worst record over the last couple weeks. Devils, Blue Jackets, Rangers, Islanders and Canes all have losing records in last 10 games. :suspicious:

If I had to guess now which 5 teams will make the playoffs the only ones I'd actually put money on are the Caps and Pens. It will most likely come down to the last week for both WC spots.

Local radio this morning, 3 times, said the "Carolina Panthers travel to Montreal tonight. The puck drops at 7:30."

It took me a second before I caught...
