In this deal, Minnesota would take back 2017 No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz, former first-rounders Dario Saric and Furkan Korkmaz. Fultz will be 20 next season, so he obviously needs time to develop, but he managed to show flashes of being an elite combo-guard at times this season when healthy. Saric is a versatile 24-year-old forward who averaged 14.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this season. Korkmaz is a flashy 20-year-old wing with a ton of upside who needs a chance to play.
The teams would also have to swap first-round picks from this season, with No. 10 going to Minnesota and No. 20 going to Philly.
Sixers get: Karl-Anthony Towns, 20th pick in 2018 NBA Draft
Timberwolves get: Markelle Fultz, Dario Saric, Furkan Korkmaz, 10th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft
I would take that trade in a heart beat, and I love Saric (platonically of course). Saric is the only proven commodity in that deal, and he's half the player KAT is. Furkan is just a wild card, could end up being a decent wing player with range, or could just be a nothing. And Fultz, well, I haven't written him off completely yet but there aren't enough alarm bells and warning lights to do him justice. He may end up being a bigger #1 overall pick bust than Oden was.
This whole Colangelo thing could work out great for the Sixers. He wasn't a stellar GM to begin with (re see trade for rights to pick Fultz) and if the Sixers do what is expected and fire him today (likely this afternoon), they could look to hire currently unemployed David Griffin, formerly the GM of the Cleveland Cavaliers and a guy that Lebron James continues to talk about in glowing terms. Hire Griffin, nab Lebron in free agency next month, and start thinking of a deep run in the playoffs next year.
