On this video he was not doing any flying projectile bs or trying to lead with his head from what I can see. It was a guy trying to make a tackle and do it in a split seconds time. As I said there are a lot of women with penises running around these days so a big hit looks like it should be an illegal play.

Here's the point the ball is caught.

Image

Just before the hit you can see that the defender is broken down to make the tackle like was taught to all of us that played at any point in our lives.

Image

Here is the contact takes place. You can see that Robinson's head is not taking a backward slant as if he had been hit helmet to helmet, you can see that the defenders helmet and pads have made contact on the right shoulder pad and is starting to turn him around. You can also see that the defender still has not done any projectile type of launching. He does not have his arms to wrap up, but that ain't what this is about.

Congratulations ladies, you continue to convince men that need to react emotionally whenever they see something that makes them cringe.

Oh btw, whenever you see a collision between a defender and the offensive player don't you see both them normally going into a stance where their helmets are being lowered into one another? Odd that this helmet to helmet bullshit can't be called on a RB going through the line and meeting a LB because that shit happens all the time. Can't wait for that aspect of the helmet to helmet rule to be realized can you? That's gonna be some good stuff to watch huh?

Oh yeah baby!
Which rarely happens any more - players never see what they hit anymore since they use the crown of the helmet to inflict as much force as possible.

That is crappy form, they will get hurt/killed, and should always be flagged for it. I can't believe any professional or college player for that matter would do that intentionally.

I agree with you. That hit wasn't that bad, it was a hard nosed football play that ended badly for both players. You will always have plays like that, they are part of the game.

But look at the Merriman-Heap hit from last weekend. Merriman left his feet for no other reason than to initial helmet on helmet contact. He did not need to leave his feet to make that play. That is the type of play the NFL needs to get rid of.

Too many players are more interested in making hits instead of making tackles.

Agree with all that. If that's what a player is doing then they get the flag. Thing is that now it has gone further and landed squarely at helmet to helmet which happens most of the time a tackle is made. :thumb:

But tackles shouldn't be helmet to helmet. The helmet is there to protect your head, not to be used as a weapon, at least it shouldn't be.

That's not what I was saying. I've seen that called on a couple of UM DB's this year when they were making a tackle that would have appeared to be a normal tackle 10-15 yrs. ago. Now it's a penalty.

What about the RB lowering his head for more yardage in the course of a run? Don't know how it's any different. It's being used as a weapon to knock the defender on his ass and gain more yardage.

It was actually really interesting to listen to James Harrison talk on the Dan Patrick Show this morning. I was upset I'd have to miss it, but the travel time to my first site visit for the day took longer than I thought so I got to listen to it.

If you read his quotes, they seem a lot "harsher" than they are. Tony Bruno filled in for DP today, and I thought the interview was excelent. He brought up the same point about running backs.

I'll have to see if they have that interview on their site and I'll link it. Very much so worth the listen

He has his own radio show, and it is BY FAR the best sports talk show out there. Fox Sports Radio carries his show in the mornings.

However, if you can't listen to it on the radio but have iPhone/smart phone access he has an app to listen for free live. Yes, i said free..he doesn't charge like the other schmucks. He is also free to listen to online.

Thanks clenzie, I have XM so I'm sure I can hear on there. I knew he was still around but didn't know where at.

Great interview.

It always gives me a chuckle that we think that guys that play this game should be little caring angels. They are violent men that play one of the most violent sports and we think they shouldn't say things that a normal person finds a little gruff. That's pretty fucking stupid. You gotta be a certain type of guy to succeed in that environment and that type of guy ain't the type of guy that is gonna be leading a church group. We sure as fuck don't want the PC pillars of the church out playing football for us either.

You are right though. Football players, at least the great ones, aren't the same breed as normal people.

JFC, Todd Heap is a giant vagina when it comes to getting hit. Not only did he develop a severe case of alligator arms on that play, he then layed on the ground through the commercial break after getting almost hit by Merriweather. :ohno:

Speaking of Harrison talking to Bruno. He went on Bruno's night show and said that he is now considering retiring, rather than having to pay those kinds of fines for hits and playing in that kind of league.

Oh, I don't know...to cover a zone, to give support of the the top for a corner, in case a running back breaks free......you know, he is like the SAFETY valve of the defense.

Do they have a weight lifting competition before the game to determine which is the stronger of the two? And why would you want to be the stronger if it meant you couldn't be free?

Suck it puss lips, here are some quotes from around the league.

1. Brian Urlacher

"It's freaking football. There are going to be big hits. I don't understand how they can do this after one weekend of hitting. And I can't understand how they can suspend us for it. I think it's a bunch of bull.

"You know what we should do? We should just put flags on everybody. Let's make it the NFFL - the National Flag Football League. It's unbelievable."

AND;

Steve Breaston

"Say it's third-and-15 and you go across the middle. As a defender, you try to dislodge that ball so he doesn't make the catch. Now, it's what, you let them catch it? You make the tackle, but they pick up the first down? I don't know."

AND;

Steve Breaston

"Say it's third-and-15 and you go across the middle. As a defender, you try to dislodge that ball so he doesn't make the catch. Now, it's what, you let them catch it? You make the tackle, but they pick up the first down? I don't know."

AND;

Adrian Wilson

"It's really hard because you only have that split-second to determine what to do. It's crazy. I try my best to use clear judgment and make clear decisions, but a lot of those collisions are unavoidable. You're either going to let them catch it and take a step to see what's going on, or there's going to be a collision."

AND;

Antrel Rolle

"It's fine for the offensive players but I'm on the defensive side of the ball. So are you telling me that now I have to slow down? I think we're already being cautious of what we're doing and how we're attacking the ball or how we're trying to make a tackle. I think that's absolutely ridiculous because under any circumstances you can't just absolutely have control over your body when you're pursuing a tackle.

"This is the game of football. This is a game of speed. This is a game of power. This is a game of physical guys going to battle. Once you start saying to guys 'You'll get suspended for a game,' that's when you're going to get a very, very tentative football game."

AND CHECK OUT CLINTON PORTIS;

Clinton Portis

"As far as dude running the ball, or running with the ball, and somebody hit you helmet to helmet, I think you got an opportunity to go down. You got an opportunity to slide."
