Ouch… That's gotta feel like—I dunno—someone snapped their tibia and ripped it through their skin, leaving their lower leg hanging like a rag doll. :coffee:

Given the statement issued by their interim president, I wouldn't be surprised if they sued the NCAA over this...OR if they continued claiming the title.

I ALSO wouldn't be surprised if the NCAA fined the school for said statement....

Really? The players had the experience happen to them. 5-10 years later, who cares if the record books don't say you won. You have lived like kings for the 4 weeks of the tournament, probably have a ring and I'm sure gotten laid many times over.

The school itself is the one it hurts the most.

And the coaches (who are usually the ones mostly to blame). Coaches are forbidden by the NCAA from claiming vacated wins/titles on their resumes, not to mention they become pariahs within the profession (for college jobs, anyway). Former Griz FB coach Robin Pflugrad has spent years in purgatory because of this, and former Northern Colorado MBB coach B.J. Hill will likely never get another DI job again (and deservedly so).

So you're saying Pitino and Calipari will never get hired again.

Well, Pitino may not… especially since he's 65. I suppose a desperate small school could take a gamble on him, but who knows if Pitino would even take that kind of job. I think Calipari got away with a lot of stuff because he would always bolt town before the sanctions hit—a school's not gonna fire him in the middle of his contract for something he did at another school.

And—of course—if these guys weren't routinely contending for national titles, nobody would be hiring them. A coach below the top tier is usually screwed if these kind of sanctions happen to them.

Very true. But isn't it ultimately the coach that deserves the blame? The school does for hiring them too. The players don't. So everything is just.

Here is what should happen:
They should be fined the amount they received from the NCAAT appearances during the violation term (approx $1M per game), plus another set amount and it should be distributed to all the teams they played during that time.

Calipari was the reason MEMPHIS&UMASS had to vacate their Final 4 appearances.

Pitino tried the NBA in the late 80's and had some success with the Knicks with Patrick Ewing with his UP TEMPO style he took from other coaches who had it before him.

I was talking about Calipari, but regardless, either one would be hired in an instant by an NBA team????

Both had their shot at the NBA and did not fare well.Calipari wanted to get his hands on Kobe Bryant.
