Sorry, but it's a joke to continue calling Memphis, Gonzaga, Butler, Umass, etc., mid-majors. These schools (for the most part) have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that they deserve to be mentioned when talking about the big boys of college basketball.

UMass has slipped a bit, so I don't have a problem with calling them a "mid-major" right about now. Butler hasn't proven anything over an extended period yet, so they're still mid-major. I don't know that Memphis State ever WAS mid-major. They've been competing for NCs since at least the mid-'80s. Gonzaga I'll grant you, but in the minds of most, their conference is going to weight them down in that respect.

What I'd like to know is why UOP's not in this poll...

Rivals considers any non-BCS school a mid-major. What's in a name..............

That's actually true. So does Scout. That cr@p was what prompted the Big West Boards to leave Scout. Scout tried to combine all "mid-major" boards into one. Anyone trying to link to another one got chopped like AGS. Man, that sucked. We had three different boards in a one-month span.

IMO, Memphis is the only team on that list that is not mid-major. Gonzaga has come back to reality recently. The other, Butler, UMass etc haven't been consistent enough to be considering something other than a mid-major
