Post by blackfordpu »

FRISCO, Texas — After leading Nicholls State to a 16-14 win at Football Bowl Subdivision opponent Rice on Saturday, Ladarius Webb and Garrick Spain have been named Southland Conference defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively. Stan Zwinggi rushed for 159 yards to help Texas State to a 38-35 win over No. 15 Cal Poly on his way to earning the offensive award.

OFFENSE

Stan Zwinggi, Texas State, Jr. RB, Fredericksburg, Texas
Zwinggi recorded his third straight 100-yard rushing game, dating back to the 2006 season, with 16 carries for 159 yards in Texas State’s 38-35 win over No. 15 Cal Poly. He gave Texas State an early 7-0 lead when he broke free for a 92-yard touchdown run, the longest play from scrimmage in school history. Also tied a school record with four rushing touchdowns in the contest. Zwinggi was part of a running game which accounted for 351 yards and 510 yards of total offense against a defense which was ranked among the top 10 in FCS last year.

Honorable Mention: Rhett Bomar, SHSU; Derrick Fourroux, McN; Byron Lawrence, NWLa.; Vincent Montgomery, NICH.

DEFENSE

Ladarius Webb, Nicholls State, Jr., S, Opelika, Alabama
Webb recorded a school-record tying three interceptions, in which one he took to the house for the Colonels 16-14 victory over Football Bowl Subdivision opponent Rice. He had seven total tackles, including three solo stops. Webb also had four kick returns for 124 yards that included a 61-yard kickoff return. The last time a Colonel had three picks in a game was when Nicholls beat FBS opponent Arkansas State in 2001 when Chris Thompson recorded three.
