I still don’t see them giving a 5-3 in conference team a bid, given that din’t think they ever have before. 1st in line would be VU, then ILSU, then SDSU (ILSU & SDSU both 8-4/5-3, ILSU won head to head. Without looking st a single poll, here’s my stab at it.
1. NDSU (12-0/8-0).
2. JMU (11-1/8-0).
3. Weber (9-3/7-1) 2 G5 losses, beat Sac
4. Sac (9-3/7-1) 1 P5/1 G5 loss.
5. UNI (8-4/6-2) (lost Weber OOC).
6. MT St (9-3/6-2).
7. Monmouth (10-2/6-0) (2-1 vs playoff, beat Albany & KSU, lost @ MT).
8. Wofford (8-3/7-1) (1-0 vs playoff, last 9 won 8, only loss @ Clemson).

Didn't Montana St just beat Montana, both are tied in conference and overall record. Why is Montana in and not Montana St.

:suspicious: I know its Sat night. Look again. I have MT St as #6, and Montana not a seed.

Next 4 in order:
-Montana (9-3/6-2) (Can’t see them giving 4 of 8 seeds to one conference)
-UCA (9-3/7-2) 0-2 vs playoff, lost to Nichols & SELA, played 2 G5, beat WKU.
-Villanova (9-3/5–3). Weak OOC, no I-A game.
-ILSU (8-4/5-3)
-SDSU (8-4/5-3)

So 9-3 with 2nd toughest SOS doesn’t get in, but 9-3 with 38th toughest SOS does? And two of the teams they beat are seeds?

After losing the Meth Bowl, SDSU, might have to go thru Fargo again as a non-seed.

From the MVFC
  • NDSU #1 seed
    UNI 2nd wk
    ILS first week
    SDSU first week
    SIU first week
All played the Bison except the Bison
All have 7 wins

2nd toughest SOS in the Big Sky?

Excluding the I-A losses:
Weber 9-1/7-1
SAC 9-1/7-1
MT State 9-2/6-2
Montana 9-2/6-2, lost to 2 of the above 3.

Bottom line, if 1 gets left out, then who?

A team with 3 conference losses has never gotten a seed before. ILSU and SDSU both 8-4/5-3, ILSU won head to head. ILSU would get one before SDSU.
The problem with UCA is they’re 0-2 vs likely playoff teams and didn’t win the Southland. I guess they have a “quality” win in WKU.

The 1st 6 you got right I think. The last 2 between Monmouth, Wofford, and UCA.

My problem with Monmouth (same with Kennesaw) is that they come from a VERY weak Big South, which is now REALLY weak now that Liberty and CCU have defected....

What I said on the JMU board

“Stunned at a couple things.

-Before last year I don’t believe the committee had ever given a conference more than 2 seeds. Last year they have the Big Sky 3. To top that, this year they gave the Big Sky 4. Not only 4, but 4 of the top 6. How in the hell can the committee think that the Big Sly is FAR superior to the MVFC and CAA? Makes zero sense.

I bet that’s the 1st time in the history of the college football playoffs at any division, Division I/II/III, that one conference has gotten 4 of the top 6 seeds. Unreal.

-I don’t recall them ever giving a seed to a team with 3 conference losses. Why give a seed to the 4th place MVFC (or tied for 3rd place), 8-4/5-3:
-That was 1-2 vs playoff teams.
-That just lost to a 4-7 (coming into the game) South Dakota team.
-That has their star QB and RB out.
Makes zero sense.

-Both SDSU and ILSU 8-4/5-3. ILSU won the head to head. So how in the hell do they give the seed to SDSU as opposed to ILSU? So right there the committee said head to head means nothing. Makes zero sense.

I’m not even going to comment in the weeks before speculation next year. I’m just going to say who the hell knows what these clowns will come up with as far as the seeds.”

It seems like your entire argument for not giving the Big Sky 4 seeds boils down to "one conference should not get 4 seeds, regardless of how good their teams are".

No. Giving a conference 4 of the top 6 seeds, something that had never been done before (not even 4 of 8) is saying that conference is BY FAR the top conference in the country, with no other conference even close. I don’t think that’s the case. Heck, the Big Sky is probably the best conference this season. But they aren’t THAT much better than the MVC and CAA..

It just says they had 4 seed worthy resumes. Keep in mind there were less seed worthy resumes this year - every conference beat each other up. The Big Sky is also almost like 1 1/2 conferences. And its not as though any of them were on the seed bubble.

CAA’s 2003-2010 (12 teams all but last season, so also like 1.5 conferences) were BY FAR the most dominant conference:
2003 UD won NC
2004 JMU won NC/W&M lost semis.
2006: UMASS lost NC.
2007: UD lost NC/UR lost semis.
2008: UR won NC/JMU lost semis.
2009: VU won NC/W&M lost semis.
2010: UD lost NC.

8 seasons: 11 semi appearances by 7 different teams/7 NC appearances by 5 different teams/4 NC by 4 different teams.
And there’s probably not a season in there where if they had seeded at least 6 teams, would have gotten 4 of the top 6 seeds.
