Need a bigger name than James Madison leading the conference. Nobody knows where JMU is. Somewhere between Maine and Florida, probably in Massachusetts. :coffee:

True story, people who used to sit near us for Hens games thought Northeastern was in West Virginia. They also thought that Tubby should've thrown to the TE more.

Back in the day JMU could have become Virginia State College & then VVirginia State University. While it's cool to be one of only 2 Div I Universities named after US Presidents (George Washington Univ being the other), and only with Div I football, for geographic, and national recognition as a state flagship, it would have been better to have become VA State University.

JMU:
1908:: State Normal and Industrial School for Women at Harrisonburg.
1914: State Normal School for Women at Harrisonburg.
1924: State Teachers College at Harrisonburg.
1938: Madison College
1976: James Madison University

VA State Univ:
1882: Virginia Normal and Collegiate Institute at Ettrick
1902: Virginia Normal and Industrial Institute
1930: Virginia State College for Negroes
1946: Virginia State College
1979: Virginia State University

So in 1938 (or prior to 1946), the State Teachers College at Harrisonburg, instead of becoming Madison College, could have Virginia State College, claiming that before the then Virginia State College for Negroes in 1946. And in 1976 would have had VA State Univ instead of JMU.

Well, Rocco needs to get it in gear. Everything I was hearing out of UD when he was hired is he was going to bring UD back to being a national power. UD needs to come off their 7 year hiatus and help JMU carry the conference banner...

Its not going to be a New England or NY school- UNH has taken it as far as they can for a northeastern school.
Its not going to be VU, a private basketball school. Its not going to be a private, period.
Its not going to be W&M.

Rocco's luster wore off quick last year. (see Villanova game)

And I was trolling you on JMU. Apparently it worked.

During the early to mid 90's Towson(State) started incorporating in red into all our sports uniforms. The though being that we were going to break away and be the flag ship for a new Maryland State University system, since College Park gets all the money they need and everyone else has to deal with it. And change our name to Maryland State. Instead, We just dropped the STATE part.

We do have several sattelite campuses like TUHaC and TUHoC.

Of course. Frostburg wanted to go with us. After it was over. Salisbury dropped the State and Frostburg was denied. It’s better of as it is. I guess. Maryland is too small to have two university systems when one is in the Big 10.

As far as TV, last year schools were left to work their own TV deals outside of CBS Sports Digital. Will be the case again this year. At least now schools found out in early May (if not earlier) there would again be no regular TV deal, only the CBS Digital streaming the 1 game of the week. Last year schools didn't find out until Aug.

-UR seemed to get the best deal, getting all 5 of their home games regionally televised on CSN or CSN+.
http://www.richmond.com/sports/ur-strik ... daec5.html

-JMU had the following for its regular season home games:
ETSU: CSN-MA+
NSU: MASN2
Maine: MASN
VU: MASN2
UNH: None
UR: MASN2

Looking at other CAA schedules from last year:
-Delaware had 3 of their 4 CAA home games televised by CSN/NBC Sports Philadelphia, with the 4th streamed CBS Digital.
-Maine had 3 of their 5 home games local Fox College Sports affiliate, with a 4th streamed CBS Digital.
-UNH had 1 televised on Fox College Sports Atlantic; streaming 2 on ESPN3, 1 on CBS Sports Digital.
-W&M had their home game vs JMU on COX Yurview Virginia, 1 streamed on CBS Digital

Below showed no home games on regular regional TV, only streamed:
-Albany all 5 streamed, 3 on ESPN3, 1 Fox Sports Go, 1 CBS Digital.
-Elon: 2 games on CBS Sports Digital
-TU: 2 games on Fox Sports Go, 1 on ESPN 3
-SBU, VU, URI only the 1 league home game CBS Sports Digital.

I'm sure we'll see a similar hodge podge this season.

So JMU & Hampton are two Virginia schools that have now exited the MEAC?

Despite recent history, as far as I'm concerned, the face of the CAA is Delaware....

I know you're trolling, but I'll bite. I know you're all about Girl Power and girls' sports. Well JMU's:
Women's lacrosse team finished 1st in the CAA & is in the NCAA Final Four:
https://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracke ... e-women/d1
Softball team finished 1st in the CAA & is in the NCAA tourney:
https://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracke ... ll/d1/2018
Womens' basketball team tied for 1st in the CAA, made it to sweet 16 of NIT.
http://www.caasports.com/standings.aspx?path=wbball
Field hockey team was 2nd in the CAA..
(I had to look all this stuff up)..

Now as far as the 2 sports that really matter, football and mens' basketball..
Football: Last 3 seasons: 2 IA wins, 3 playoff trips (7 wins), 6 nationally televised playoff games on ESPN networks, 2 trips to Frisco, 1 NC, and twice hosting ESPN Gameday (which frankly dwarfs everything else), its pretty clear who the current face of the CAA is...

Basketball: team blows right now (was in a 4 way tie with UD, Drexel, and Elon for last in the CAA), and the current 6,500 capcity Convo Center is a dilapidated relic, this ought to help turn things around. Just broke ground a couple weeks ago on the new 8,500 capacity, 88 million basketball arena (part of 250 million in current construction projects at JMU):
Image
"...The Union Bank & Trust Center will have a club area, courtside seating with a private hospitality area, state-of-the-art lighting and audio/video technology, a center-hung scoreboard and upper concourse ribbon boards, a student club area, a multipurpose event space, a team store and a Raising Cane’s restaurant. A 1,500-space parking deck will be constructed next to the building.

The arena will include a practice gym, offices, academic areas, locker rooms, meeting rooms, a strength-and conditioning area, a sports-medicine area and amenities for the men’s and women’s basketball programs...."
http://www.richmond.com/sports/jmu-to-o ... 09ecc.html

Its pretty clear who the current face of the CAA is..
