That was a really good game. I like intense defensive games like that. Both defensive lines played extremely well. James Madison made more mistakes. Not only turnovers. Dropped passes. I think NDSU was able to run the ball a little better. In fact, since I was pulling for them, I kind of felt like they tried to mix things up and pass it sometimes when I'd have preferred to see them continue to run the football.

Not that running the football was easy for NDSU. But I felt like sometimes they'd run the football and get into relatively short down and distance then try to pass it and get a negative play because JMU's defensive front was so good at getting penetration when they tried to drop back and pass.

I think the rushing stats are a little deceptive in this one because NDSU took a 27 yard loss on the last play to run out the clock while JMU got 24 yards on the fake punt. If you take out those two plays and look at what happened during regular offensive plays NDSU got 161 yards rushing while JMU got 69. North Dakota State did have a clear edge in terms of running the football.

Congrats to NDSU (well on here that’s Gil).

I said before the game if JMU played well and lost I can live with that. Well, 2 out of 3 phases (defense, special teams) they played well. Atypical JMU offensive failures/mistakes a hard pill to swallow.

Defense: played as well as can be expected. Held NDSU’s powerhouse offense to 17 Points/264 hards. Only complaint is didn’t force more turnovers.

Special teams: As well as can be expected. a net plus verse a NDSU team known for having very good special teams
Negatives:
-Roughing the punter that extended NDSU’s drive that led to their 1st TD.
-Missed 43 yard FG.

Positives:
-Made FG from 22? & 31?
-Blocked a FG.
-Converted the fake punt.
-Couple of long punt returns.

Offense:
4 turnovers NDSU forced:
-2 INTs: Pressure on Schor caused bad passes & NDSU DBs made good play.
-Schor fumble: he got jacked.
-Riley Stapleton fumble: JMU fanbase up in arms about that one. Apparently ESPN commentators said his knee was down. I didn’t see live as I was in the long ass beer line & haven’t watched recording.

5 at least dropped passes, 2 red zone/likely TDs. Maybe the worst case of dropsies by JMU I’ve ever seen. More disappointing & harder to swallow than the turnovers because no one forced the drops. #1 reason why JMU lost IMHOP is because the JMU WR (outside of Riley Stapleton) choked.

Between the 5 yard lines on the JMU it’s all JMU, plus about 1/2 the endzone (HOF side). I think it’s about what I expected 60-40 NDSU.
Basically it was this:
-Both teams had their 5300 alottments filled along the sidelines (on my side ended about the 5 yard line right where I was at)

-One endzone, looking at just the portion underneath the HOF construction (excluding from the 5 yard to the back corner) was about 1/2 and 1/2. Other endzone each team had their bands.

NDSU has virtually all 4 corners, about 5 yard lines to back corners (most of the 8k Aug public presale). The corner next to me had a smattering of JMU but was mostly NDSU.

The 1k SRO that went on sale last week I think was closer to 50/50.

Like was already said early in this thread, 8k tickets went on sale in Aug to the public and sold out in hours. NDSU probably ended up with 6-7k of those, directly or though brokers who gobbled up a chunk). JMU might have only gotten 1-2k. That right there was the difference.

Just under 20k announced. NDSU probably had 12-13k, JMU 7-8k. 5k more JMU fans would have come if they could have gotten tickets. Same with NDSU. The 2 fanbases easily could have filled a 30k stadium, maybe more.

Didn’t mean to get you riled up, and into math. Great showing by the NDSU fans! They looked great on TV with the yellow on both sides.

Backup punter on the last punt. The starter is one of 2 FBS transfers and a SR. Unless we bring in another punter, the last guy to punt will be punting next year.

Will they let Shank McStonefoot keep his scholly to finish his degree this spring?

Btw, there’s something fundamentally unAmerican about rugby/soccer style punting, but it is usually pretty damn effective. JMU’s guy yesterday and Delaware’s last punter prior to this year make ugly kicks but usually pin people pretty deep. I think it’s because they take an extra second shifting to one side and it lets the coverage get downfield.

Winning heals all wounds. He might have been shell-shocked after the roughing the kicker penalty on his first try.

Missed it - how was JMU's streamer game? Did those crazy rebels thumb their collective noses at NCAA no-funsters and fill the air with purple & gold after the first JMU score, or did they meekly sit still in submissive obedience?

Luckily, ESPN put them on the game camera side and shot over and away from them.

The joy of watching NDSU win was only interrupted by a bit of glitter confetti and maybe a small bit of flailing purple streamer blowing across the bottom of the frame. I can’t recall any full-on bareback gay streamer porn during the broadcast.

There was at least one shot of purple streamers.

I don't think there's any question that JMU made more unforced errors than NDSU did. But that's what makes the difference in games between evenly matched teams. Frankly, I thought JMU looked a little better athletically. I was pulling for NDSU but for most of the game I was holding my breath because it looked like JMU would inevitably get on top. NDSU's defensive line was a bright spot for the Bison but even that was negated to some extent by the way JMU's QB could evade the rush and get the ball off accurately while on the move.

Unfortunately for JMU the ball was too frequently dropped when the QB did that. And we all remember the long ball where that happened. I don't think that'd have been a TD but it sure as heck would've been a very big play.

JMU's receivers definitely had the edge over NDSU's depleted DB contingent, I thought. But they just never could quite exploit that except for that one drive just before halftime.

As bad as the JMU receivers were dropping balls, the NDSU special teams play was terrible. The early championship, the Bison had great special teams, Punting, Kicking and returns. Almost lost because of special teams this weekend. Blocked kick, short punts, returned punts, great field position for JMU all day. Defense stepped up to save the day on several occasions.

Sucks for JMU (and their fans making that long trip back after a loss from Frisco - I know from 2010) but I thought JMu was the better team Saturday but they killed themselves. Season high in turnovers, what was probably a season high number of drops & a roughing the kicker on the 1st drive that resulted in a TD.

I think NDSU outcoached JMU outside of the fake punt. After that punt the Dukes got absolutely zero and looked like they had no clue how to prevent the Bison D from causing mayhem.

Weber State, the only team to score more than 20 points on JMU, something even the National Champions couldn't do.

What could have been.......what could have been.

:crybaby:

Congratulations to the Bizon for winning their sixth title and Congrats to JMU for a terrific season. Hopefully Weber will once again be in the mix next season.

The big question is, will Delaware and NDSU play each other twice next season?
