The biggest question heading into this weekend. Does Dallas Goedert,
https://herosports.com/fcs-football/esp ... draft-byby
who was injured early vs UNH, play.

Yesterday:
“South Dakota State coach John Stiegelmeier said Goedert is questionable for Saturday’s semifinal. Goedert exited SDSU’s quarterfinal contest against New Hampshire by limping off the field with an injury. “He’s got a fairly serious injury that he’s only got a week to prepare and we’ve got an unbelievable medical staff, but it’s not 50-50 right now.””
https://jamesmadison.rivals.com/news/fi ... -americans

Today: Craig Haley of Stats said Craig Haley Goedert is expected to be 80-90% and starting Saturday...

Top 2 I-AA in NFL draft likely from SDSU:

Commentators for the JMU/Weber game noted at the beginning how banged up JMU was with 10 players out for the season, and that was before 2 more offensive starters went down vs Weber. At that point it was 7 offensive starters down since Aug, 0 defense.

For JMU the 2 offensive starters injured vs SBU,both are definitely out:
-Starting & 2nd leading WR when he went out (now 5th) & CAA Special teams POTY Jr John Miller sprained ankle. If JMU wins maybe he could make it back for Frisco. His replacement vs Weber was Riley Stapleton, who had 8 catches for 189 yards & a TD.
-Starting rSr LG AJ Bolden, Bolden is done for the season. His career at JMU is over.

For the 2 starters injured vs Weber who knows, as Houston is very tight lipped on injuries unless a guys is done for the season.
-#88 rSr TE Jonathon Kloosterman, 2016 1st team All CAA, missed 2 games to suspension & 2 more to mono, out 2nd series vs Weber, was walking around afterwards in pads with an ice pack on his knee. 2nd string TE already out for season since Oct, so if Kloosterman can't go, it will be the 3rd string TE, true Fr #37 Clayton Cheatham.

-#60 rSo RT Jahee Jackson, 2nd team All CAA. Was the 4th JMU starting OL to go down since Aug (other 3 were season ending), 3rd to go down that started the 1st 5 games. If he can't it will be like it was for over half of the Weber game- starting RG will move to RT, and a true Fr (3 star with double digit I-A offers, best true Fr OL at JMU in years) will be starting at RG.

A lot of people seem to be jumping on the Jackrabbit bandwagon since they had a much easier quarterfinal than JMU. As Lee Corso would say: "NOT SO FAST, MY FRIEND!" The Dukes are at home, they have a dominant defense, they've had one extra day of rest, and—perhaps biggest of all—Dallas Goedert is officially doubtful to play. If Goedert is, indeed, out (or noticeably hobbled), this will likely become a battle of the trenches. SDSU may have the better O-Line, but the Dukes have a considerable advantage on the other side. In other words, James Madison should be returning to Frisco…

Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:

      • Quarterbacks -- South Dakota St.

Running Backs - South Dakota St.

        Receivers/TEs - (push/unclear)

Offensive Line - South Dakota St.

        Defensive Line - James Madison

        Linebackers --- James Madison

        Secondary ---- James Madison

        Kicking ------ South Dakota St.

        Punting ------ James Madison

Return Teams - South Dakota St.

        Kickoffs ------ (push)

        • South Dakota St. 24-34 James Madison

My question is...

Did Weber expose the JMU defense or the CAA offenses as a whole?

No one had scored more than 14 points of JMU all season. Then Weber who was only a middle of the pack Big Sky offense scored 28 points on them. At least double of any of the offenses JMU played all year.

JMU is obviously the favorite but its not out of the realm of possibilities that an SDSU (with Dallas) could pull the upset.

I'm not sure Weber "exposed" JMU's defense, per se. They only had 329 yards and instead took advantage of having much better field position than the Dukes all game.

Which is why it was kind of a 2 part question, expose the JMU defense or the CAA offenses. I think a middle of the pack Big Sky offense scoring as many points on JMU as they did says a lot about the offenses in the CAA.

There were not dynamic offenses in the CAA this year, and I don't think anyone can really argue that. JMU doesn't do anything spectacular on offense - they move the chains and they move it well. Of course, Georgia Southern used to do the same thing and that seemed to work for them. But certainly after JMU, there was maybe Richmond, who had a QB who was good, but then offenses fell off after that. The CAA is a defensive league, and teams seem to operate with that premise in mind.

Well, the 1st half TD Weber scored was practically a pick 6. That was on the JMU offense, not defense.

For the 3 2nd half TDs, 2 of them were due to god awful plays by JMU's normally very good 2 time 1st team All CAA safety (we have a whole thread on this on the JMU board). I would hope he bounces back from his worst game of the season..

JMU probably made more major mistakes than they have all season. I don't know if it was the worst game of the season (a lot on the JMU board seem to think so) but it was definitely the worst for JMU's defense (all due to the 2nd half). I don;t know if that was Weber's best game of the season, but re watching the game you see only 2 major mistakes, a lot less than JMU..

Off the JMU board
College football live ended show with a preview of fcs semis.

Two analysts said they watched our game from the espn studio Friday.

“Weber played a great game. James Madison had to overcome mistakes, but the dukes are relentless”

“Yea, they are legit. Jmu, they played about as poorly as they possibly could, and still beat Weber State. So look out. You don’t want to play jmu moving forward”

Those are direct quotes from two neutral espn analysts.

And only 7 points off of them. JMU needs to capitalize on the piss=poor performance by SDSU so far. Letting them hang around could be a huge mistake.

Ruling confirmed. Make it four turnovers. SDSU has the yips badly.

They don't seem to travel well to the east coast. I remember Delaware beating the piss out of them in Newark in the regular season several years back.

And SDSU holds and JMU loses their best WR #7. Thought he got the wind knocked out of him but just went to locker room. Another (8th) Offensive starter out. Oh well.

It’s a damned miracle that SDSU is only down 7. That D is for real. FIVE turnovers in one quarter and only give up 7 points??? :bow
