They were up by two. A blocked XP could be returned for two to force OT. You DO NOT kick there under any circumstance, or even run a play that risks a fumble. You take a knee.
Maybe I'm dense, but after a TD, w/ the score @ 40-38, Youngstown still risked a fumble going for 2. Why even go for 2, if that's the case, w/ only 4 seconds left? Also, what chance is there for an XP block? That's a pretty far out scenario.

Yes, only after a failed 2 point conversion. 93hen says neither an xtra point or play after the TD was advisable, when in fact Youngstown went for 2. I agree a kneel-down was best, but why not after the TD, instead of going for 2?

How could they kneel it down after going for 2? :?

I thought they scored, and then knelt it on the point after.

I'm pretty sure we're all in agreement that you should kneel the PAT in that scenario. Not doing that is what caused the The Miracle on the Mountain

Wow. What a game. I had to make an appearance at my wife's family's Christmas Party so I set the DVR then avoided news. Came back and watched it. I was pulling for YSU partially because I like it when somebody outside of the top 4 wins. But I'd have been OK with EWU winning too.

Looks like a team east of the Big River's going to win it this year.

Are we getting trolled, Mvemjsunpx? I don't know what else to say. YSU kneeled on the point after try. How else can we explain it?

They did just do a "victory formation" kneel on the final potential extra point attempt. Makes perfect sense. With 1 second left you don't have to worry about them kicking a field goal. What's going to happen is that you're going to get the lateral fest on the kickoff. Either they'll score a TD doing that...very unlikely...or the clock will run out.

So you take away all potential for them getting 2 points to tie on the conversion attempt by just taking a knee.

Now I'm wondering if Youngstown State's starting safeties will be back for the title game. It's amazing that they were able to beat a team like Eastern Washintong without them. I mean, I don't think I could think of a worse opponent's style to have to play against without your starting safeties.

Thanks for explaining it again. They may have missed when I explained it.

YSU offense wasn't clicking against NDSU, a few changes and they haven't lost since that game. Defense has been good all season.

Well shit.

Hats off to Youngstown. They possessed the ball for around 40 minutes and were able to finish drives.

With the brutal start to the schedule, 5 new starters on the o-line, and an inexperienced QB, I thought we were an 8-3 or 7-4 team to start the season and they ended up being one of the best teams in school history. It was fun watching the greatest receiver in FCS history play one more season, seeing a sophomore quarterback break the FCS single season passing yards record (set but Tyler Heineke), and, despite yesterday, seeing the defense improve.

Hope we're on the road in the semis next year. :)

The game looked good on TV
ESPN did a good job showing the crowd and they were into the game

But what's that old saying
something about one side of the ball wins games

That sucks Kalm to not only lose the game but to lose it in that oh my god f'ing unbelievable bad luck fashion.. I wanted JMU to face EWU. Yeah, YSU, I thought with all their suspensions would be a weaker opponent. But I want to JMU to have to play the best and for a good game to be showcased. I was looking forward to seeing how JMU's DBs would do against Gebrud, Cupp & Co...Oh well, maybe we'll see you guys next Dec (but only @ JMU), minus Kupp of course.
..peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard..
..But you have to go home now. We have to have peace…
..I know how you feel, but go home, and go home in peace.

What's cool is Coop was able to move pass Rice in all the big categories last year with 39 games played (2 less than Rice). Last time I looked I think he owns 15 total FCS records.

Let me know how many rings Cupp ends up with.

He better hope he gets drafted by the Patriots. Belichick makes little white guys look invincible at WR.
