Worst Performance: Idaho St. 7, Northern Arizona 52 - The Bengals commit 4 turnovers and get shredded by NAU's backup quarterback.

Most Surprising Result: Northern Colorado 21, UC Davis 34 - The Bears' supposedly potent offense is held under 300 yards by the worst statistical defense in the conference.

Most Surprising Result: Nicholls St. 33, Houston Baptist 30 (2OT) - I guess we should be calling Nicholls the "Cardiac Colonels," because 5 of their 6 games have been one-score affairs and 3 of their last 4 contests have gone to overtime.

Missouri Valley

Most Surprising Result: (#1) North Dakota St. 17, (#11) South Dakota St. 19 - The Bison defense allows 500+ yards for the 3rd. time in the past 2 seasons after never allowing 500+ over the previous 5 seasons.

    Overall: 2-17

Best Performance: San Diego 38, Drake 7 - The Toreros seem to be a lock for the auto-bid as they've already beaten Dayton and have outscored their other PFL opponents 134-20.

Appreciate the shout-out to the Mercer Bears...BUT...

Mercer is 4-1 in their most recent one-score games going back to about this time in 2015 when the Bears put up a 17-14 win over #3 Ranked Chattanooga. The single one-score loss since that win over Chatt. was a 24-23 loss on a very late FG to currently #5 Ranked The Citadel.

Going back to 2014 and until mid-season 2015 though, you are correct. During that time period, Mercer lost 8 straight and 9 of 10 one-score games. Glad they have turned it around and now (usually) find a way to win the close ones. Those 9 games, as a fan, um....just sucked...NO FUN AT ALL. Hang in there Salukis. Yes in the universe where they play 3 quarters of football Merecer would have a slightly better record.

Too bad they don't give out trophies for having the lead in a game before eventually losing.

Yes - you are correct. If games were 2 minutes and 21 seconds shorter and Mercer hadn't beaten Chatt. last year...and this year hadn't caused the injury (possibly; unverified at this time, I have to admit) that ultimately kept Chatt's STAR, Derrick Craine, out of most of the 2nd half vs. El Cid last week; then El Cid Fans just might have as much difficulty with recognizing and spelling the word "trophies" as they do with "Mercer."

Worst Performance: Towson 17, Dartmouth 20 - The Tigers dominated most stats, but still found a way to lose to a reeling Dartmouth squad.

Most Surprising Result: Maine 20, (#17) Albany 16 - Maine wins 2 straight in this series for the first time.

Big South

CCU 17-7 GWEBB
MONM 13-17 PRESBY

Best Performance: Presbyterian 17, Monmouth 13 - Both teams used two quarterbacks, but Presbyterian's two guys each threw for more yards than Monmouth's two passers combined.

Worst Performance: Monmouth 13, Presbyterian 17 - Whatever postseason hopes the inconsistent Hawks held before this game seem to have flown away now.

Most Surprising Result: Monmouth 13, Presbyterian 17 - Monmouth is averaging 39.5 ppg in their 4 wins, but just 9 ppg in their 3 losses.

SoCon

UTC 14-22 CIT
WCU 24-38 MER
VMI 21-55 SAM
FUR 52-7 ETSU

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 9-1

Best Performance: (#8) The Citadel 22, (#5) Tennessee-Chattanooga 14 - Both teams had prolific rushing attacks coming in, but only one showed up in Charleston as the Bulldogs won the ground game 342-55.

If frogs had wings they wouldn't bump their asses when they hop.

I'm going to start calling you "Ifbut"

Frogs/Wings - That's just awesome man; really great stuff there! I bet you used to slay 'em down in Goose Creek with that kind of material.

    Overall: 12-12

    vs. FCS: 1-3
    Overall: 12-12

Best Performance: Dartmouth 20, Towson 17 - It wasn't a pretty performance, but it was still enough for the Big Green to finish undefeated out of conference for the 2nd. straight year.

Worst Performance: Columbia 10, Penn 35 - Not only does their offense suck, but the Lion defense might be fading too since they're allowing 41.5 ppg in Ivy League play.

Most Surprising Result: (#20) Harvard 17, Holy Cross 27 - The Crimson suffer their first non-conference loss in 5 years (also to Holy Cross).

MEAC

FAMU 41-27 DSU
SCSU 14-9 HOW
MORG 12-21 HAMP
SAV 3-33 NCCEN
NCAT 52-35 BCU

  • NConf Record: 0-0

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 0-9

Best Performance: (#14) North Carolina A&T 52, Bethune-Cookman 35 - The Aggie pass D had some unusual trouble, but Tarik Cohen got his 3rd. consecutive 200-yard game and Lamar Raynard added some strong passing stats of his own.

Worst Performance: Delaware St. 27, Florida A&M 41 - The Hornets get two 150-yard rushers and still lose.

Most Surprising Result: South Carolina St. 14, Howard 9 - The Bulldogs are 2-0 in league, but it's not a good sign that they won turnovers 6-0 and still beat horrible Howard by just 5 points.

SWAC

AAMU 40-7 UAPB
MVSU 24-56 ALST
SU 28-24 JSU
TXSO 20-23 ALCORN

  • NConf Record: 0-0

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 0-4

Best Performance: Alcorn St. 23, Texas Southern 20 - Darien Anderson gets 13 tackles, 4 TFLs, and 2 sacks as the Braves win #5-in-a-row over TSU.

Worst Performance: Arkansas-Pine Bluff 7, Alabama A&M 40 - The Golden Lions fall to 6-17 all time versus the Bulldogs.

Most Surprising Result: Arkansas-Pine Bluff 7, Alabama A&M 40 - Pine Bluff did exactly what they had to do to deny Mississippi Valley "Worst" honors. ;)
