SFA @ UNI - The Indoor War of the Purple

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

Pretty simple here. UNI's at home, they stop the run better than SFA, and they have better special teams. The Lumberjacks might be able to get away with stacking the run because UNI doesn't pass so good, but I ultimately don't think they'll have enough to win in the UNI-Barn.

Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:

      • Quarterbacks -- Stephen F. Austin

        Running Backs - (push)

        Receivers/TEs - Stephen F. Austin

        Offensive Line - (push)

        Defensive Line - Northern Iowa

        Linebackers --- Northern Iowa

        Secondary ---- Northern Iowa

        Kicking ------ Northern Iowa

        Punting ------ Northern Iowa

        Return Teams - Northern Iowa

        Kickoffs ------ (push)

        • Stephen F. Austin 21-34 Northern Iowa

This Stat would point to SFA having an edge: Gus Johnson 6.78 yards per carry.
Lesser competition though. Push seems right. I need to watch more of both though.

DJ will be on an nfl roster playing good minutes next year and is considered a yop 10 rb in all of college football by almost every pro scout.

That's not a push

How DARE you say UNI doesn't have the advantage at every position on the field. Their walk-ons are probably better than anyone starting at SFA.

How DARE you, Sir.

I assume both teams have more than one RB on the roster.

I've watched UNI several times on TV and obviously know a lot about SFA. This game will be closer than a lot of you think. I think UNI will pull away at win at home but should be close into the 4th quarter.

Clenz has a point about Johnson. Best RB I've seen NDSU go up against the past two years and we have faced some tough backs over that timeframe.

UNI by 17.

Doug Flutie never played for the Seahawks, dal.

My whole point for the pic is to show the consequences of having an over-sized QB. That was 6'5" Dan McGwire (the younger brother of A's/Cardinals slugger Mark McGwire). He ZERO mobility and couldn't do much of anything to get the Seahawks into the end zone.

A short quarterback, on the other hand, brings up all sorts of opportunities for misdirection on the part of the offense? You believe that tired old myth that a short QB can't be successful because he "can't see over the line?" Hogwash. The line's job is to create passing lanes, plus there are always rollouts, bootlegs, and waggles. (Yes, there IS a difference between a bootleg and a waggle). There have been all sorts of successful short QBs, even at the NFL level. (LeBaron, Haden, and Flutie come immediately to mind.)

StupidHornet,
Why, for all the equality shit you espouse, do you refer to this Ashley Martin as a "girl" in your signature? She kicked for a Division I program, as you say, and, yet, she's only a girl and not a "woman"?

You are a doofus little kid.

Yours,

Cap'n Cat

Yes SH I know Flutie never played for the ,Seahawks just used him as an example of a sub 6-0 tall ,QB that had some success in the NFL.Yes the Offensive line's job ,is to create passing lanes but, eventually those lanes will be clogged up by opposing D-lineman and tall linebackers, and bat down his attempts. Not every tall
QB was a athletic stiff ,like McGwire.Eventually the defense will get to him.

Give them a break clenz, they will overcome the -17 yards of rushing they have so far. And DJ is going to quit since he has 115 yards already.
