Virginia football coach Mike London said yesterday that former Liberty football standout Corey Lillard has withdrawn from school and is transferring. Lillard was a sophomore safety for the Cavaliers. He appeared in three games as a true freshman last season.
"He decided he wanted to pursue other options than playing at Virginia," London said. "He didn't have anything negative to say."
Liberty football coach Tom Buzzo said Lillard's decision had nothing to do with football. He said Lillard will take visits to Liberty University, Delaware and Marshall this week and settle on a transfer destination by Saturday.
We're stacked at safety for this year, Bratton & Walters, harder to find a better combo anywhere. But, both are seniors so sure we'd take him for the next couple years.

That's the same thing I would have said if he had chosen Delaware.
Except it would have sounded silly if you said it. We have Bratton, Walters, and Grant in our defensive backfield with something like nine letters, all sorts of CAA honors, and a championship game appearance each between them. You have who?
Yeah you're right. We're still Lynchburg Baptist College playing at City Stadium and our coach is John Cartwright. We couldn't possibly compete with mighty Delaware for a recruit.

Don't get your Sundays best undies in a knot. There are probably many reasons he chose Liberty. One of them was most likely that he wasn't going to see much playing time at UD. Who knows if we even had a scholly available for another guy in the secondary?

That's not fair to Liberty. If you get the right collared shirt, the right crowd, the right soda, and the perfectly flavored popcorn, a night of PG-13 movies can be a thrill.

As was posted.. the DBs appear to be a team strength and I would have been very surprised if UD took a DB transfer at this time. Delaware has much more pressing needs in both their OL and DL.
