JMU 1st half was TERRIBLE, only leading an overmatched Bucknell 17-3. Looked like they just assumed they could show up and Bucknell would roll over. I said at halftime this looks like a 2 or 3 win team. 2nd half both sides of the ball pulled their heads out of their arses after I'm sure they got reamed at the half. Held Bucknell to 4 yards, and pretty much went up and down the field (got stopped on a 4th and goal, scored 3 TDs, ended the game taking a knee on the Bucknell 2 yd line).
1st half Offense yds: JMU 187, Bucknell 204
2nd half offense: JMU 249, Bucknell 4.

JMU started a rFr QB for the 1st time since 2001, and he was TERRIBLE. 3 for 11, 15 yds, an INT. He got yanked after 2nd series 3rd quarter, after JMU got stopped for the 2nd time on a 4th and goal, largely because he couldn't hit wide open receivers. The 2nd QB is a 6th yr junior transfer QB (3 seasons South Florida played in 20 games with 17 starts & 2 seasons Arizona played in 3 games/2 starts) that coming into camp everyone had expected to be the starter. He looked good (7 for 11, 144 yds, 2 TDs/0 INT). The 4 possessions he was in JMU scored 3 TDs.

Glad for a win over East Carolina yesterday, the first time they've deigned to play in Boone since 1979. 40,000 in attendance. I still don't know what to think about App this year. We have struggled in our two wins. Wyoming should be interesting this coming Saturday.

Bucknell 62 (146 passing).
UVA 18 (377 passing).
Troy -12 (333 passing) (With both starting LBs out).

Giving up less than 23 ypg rushing is by far the top statistically in FBS. Of course that number will rise.

Cignetti was right. #89 looks out of bounds to me. Inexplicable that the officials refused to do a field review. All they had to was look at the phone lol. And UT St #32 was holding JMU #11 like a mother f***er..

Sun Belt Conference Issues Public Reprimands of James Madison & Marshall

The Sun Belt Conference issued public reprimands of James Madison University and Marshall University due to violations of NCAA rules during their respective football games on Saturday, Sept. 23.

The violations resulted from the in-game use of communication equipment in the team area for James Madison and a drone flying over the field when squad members were present during team introductions for Marshall.

The Sun Belt Conference considers this matter concluded.

I’m not drinking the purple koolaid yet. Tough schedule set up as noted above, esp games 2 through 5. Frankly could start out anywhere between 5-0 and 1-4. I predicted on the JMU board 10-3 or 10-4.

Again will get GSU after a 5-0 start. But this time @ home and after a bye.

The biggest variable is how much of a problem the JMU pass rush causes for us because I think we'll throw the ball fairly easily on them. Could be a game with 1200 total yards of offense.

Last year GAU 45, JMU 38, total offense 1265 yards:
JMU 675 (468 passing/207 rushing)
GSU 590 (578 passing/12 rushing)

Watched a recording of week before last CCU @ GSU and have looked at the stats. I think both teams will have less yards at least than last year’s insane #s (Right now the line is JMU -4.5, O/U 58.5). In addition to the new clock rules meaning less plays:
1.JMU not quite as good on offense/GSU better on defense.
(Lost All SBC OT for season, causing a reshuffle in OL).
2.JMU was missing both starting corners @ GSU last yr.
3.Maybe will be raining, which could help slow the GSU passing game.

Yep, how GSU handles the JMU pass rush will be the huge variable. JMU #1 in FBS against the rush, sacks per game (4.6) & TFL per game (10.2) As good as the JMU DL has been, that is despite last yr’s 1st team All SBC DE now a 7th yr grad transfer at Ole Miss. Only play 6 on the DL, but have 3 that are putting up All SBC #s in sacks & TFL. Course 131st in pass defense, giving up 311 yards per game. I see GSU is 9th in passing offense at 337 yds per game.

Big variable is probably the 2 best HC’s in at least the SBC East, and with both team’s having a bye week. Could see some unexpected.

JMU is built more to stop the Marshalls amd ASU’s of the SBC in Nov/Dec type weather. Why I’ll be doing a rain/wind dance on Saturday..

Good lord ASU loses @ UNC in OT, loses @ Wyoming 22-19 due to a blocked FG/scoop amd score with under 2 min, wins @ ULM 41-40 on a last second 54 yd FG, loses to CCU 27-24 on last second FG.

Pretty impressive to have a 34k+ sellout on a Tues night for a 2-3 @ a 3-2.

Also 10/28 ODU @ JMU 8 PM ESPNU. Will be 4th nationally televised game in a row and 6th in 1st 8 games (most JMU had in FCS was 4/1 regular season) with the 4 Nov games still TBD..

I had JMU losing this Thursday on a short week @ Marshall, but since not quite Top 25 (are the top non ranked vote getter in both polls (basically #26)) will probably beat Marshall, be ranked 20 something, and then lose to ODU on 10/28..

Greatest college game of punting ever? Greatest game by a college punter ever in terms of pinning the opponent? 7 JMU punts downed at the Marshall, 1, 1, 1, 5, 6, 10, 11..Unreal.
The Marshall punter also had a punt that pinned JMU at their 1, and another punt that went for 74 that coukd have gone for close to 90 if the Marshall gunner hadn’t dove on it because he erroneously thought the JMU returner might have touched it.
