Trump won only 15% of registered Iowa Republicans.

50% of caucus goers voted for someone else.

Just 27% of caucus voters were under age 50.

Trump might have a dwindling base issue. This reflects on potential for the general more than the primary.
Caucusing in Iowa is always funky, especially the past few cycles, and I'm sure especially in the middle of tough weather. Trump is certainly the heavy favorite to win the nomination, but Iowa hasn't given us all that much clarity beyond what we already knew. New Hampshire will be a little more revealing. Weird calendar, GOP doesn't really have another interesting primary until SC on 2/24.

Everyone already knew the outcome.

We had received over 2 feet of snow (at least where I am and a lto of the state, especially the populated parts) get dumped on us in the 4 days leading up to it, had 50+ mph winds for days creating the worst winter event since 1978, and wind chills well below the point F and C are equal. Even though the worst of it was gone, trying to get anywhere was still a damn nightmare. It wasn't "safe/clear" until yesterday or even today. I went out last night and it "winter" driving, but still on the tougher side of winter driving because there was so much needing cleaned up beyond just "get a path on the road for carS"

There are completely understandable reasons why turnout was low, but Trump getting only 51% of those that did turn out is a bit shocking.

But to counter Kalm's numbers a bit
Trump only got 50% but that means every single other person totaled 50%. IIRC only 1 crossed over 20%.

It's still overwhelmingly Trump, and even if they didn't caucus for him they are going to vote for him. Hell, look how quickly Vivek went from telling people if they wanted to save Trump they needed to vote for him, to apologizing and groveling for forgiveness, to sending out a laughable last-minute plea on Twitter the morning of the caucus, to dropping out and throwing full support to Trump. He is going to get 99.8% of the R vote in Iowa if he's not disqualified as a convicted felon.

What establishment?
Monied interests. He already has the evangelicals.

Trump needs help convincing enough moderate conservatives that his clown show can still provide stability for markets, keep taxes low, and deregulate industries.
His speech after winning Iowa was pretty good, if he was such a clown show why did CNN and MSNBC not show it? You’d think they would want Trump to embarrass himself

Some numbers.
Donald Trump achieved the largest margin of victory in the history of contested Iowa Republican caucuses, with a 51 percent vote share, more than doubling the previous record

…. The victory also marks the highest vote share in Iowa Republican caucus history.

The previous record was set by in 1972 by former President George Bush who won with 41 percent, according to data from the Des Moines Public Library.

It only took 30 minutes into the race for major media outlets to call the race in Trump’s favor. This included the Associated Press, CNN, and other major outlets.

In 2016, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) Cruz beat Trump by 3.3 percent:
• Cruz: 27.6 percent
• Trump 24.3 percent

Here is a breakdown of the top two performing Republicans in every Iowa caucus going back to Dole’s record-setting year in 1988:

2012: Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) and former Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) Tie:
• Santorum: 24.6 percent
• Romney: 24.6 percent

2008: Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR) Beats Romney by 9.2 Percent:
• Huckabee: 34.4 percent
• Romney: 25.2 percent

2000: Former President George Bush Beats Forbes Editor-in-Chief Steve Forbes by 9 Percent:
• Bush: 41 percent
• Forbes 30 percent

1996: Dole Beats Presidential Consultant Pat Buchanan by 3 Percent:
• Dole: 26 percent
• Buchanan: 23 percent

1988: Dole Beats Televangelist Pat Robertson by 12.8 percent:
• Dole took roughly 37 percent of the vote that year.

They need the ratings as well

Trump opened things up by talking about healing and unification, Now if he is actually able to keep his word on that is another story

Joey Rotten read off the teleprompter pretty much the same thing 4 years ago and it was just another lie. He is the most vindictive Ill tempered President in history

Hey...random question...but

Why don't Nikki Haley or Ted Cruz use their real names?

American isn't racist. Racism doesn't exist. All that.

Surely their bases would still vote for them, right?

Kinda like when Calvin Coolidge went with Calvin, his middle name, rather than using John, which was his given first name. You're welcome for the goo US Presidents Jeopardy hint. :thumb:

Well Trump is now going after Nimarata for being an Indian, Punjabi, immigrant and calling her “Nimbra” multiple times in social media posts.

We are going to quickly see just how quick not racist MAGA latches on to that and starts to use it against her.

Wait, so interferring in an election by attemting to remove the by far leading candidate for one party is somehow ‘promoting trust in our free, safe and secure elections’. :suspicious:

Asking if a candidate who attempted to fraudulently and violently prevent the Constitutional transfer of power should be on the ballot is a valid question.

Your opinion, as Trump has been convicted of none of that.

Why are you against letting the voters decide who they want to elect?
