I don't pray. Nor wish anyone death.

Just a musing about Kalm's long stated prediction. These guys can't even keep their house in order, let alone the country.

What do you mean "far fewer protections"? They're not even wearing masks in the White House. I'll think we'll be fine out here - hide in your house if you need to, with all the reasonable precautions we can take the vast majority of us should be able to venture out and get on with things.

No worries, just a bunch of health care workers, doctors, nurses, etc. I mean, who needs them during a pandemic? :dunce:

So let's keep everyone at home and the government can keep printing money so people can buy food and pay the rent/mortgage.

It also needs a current rate of infection map.

A post vaccine economic recovery map might be interesting as well.

Yeah, according to the CDC as of today, 73,297 of 329 million in the US have died. That's .00022% of the population in this "genocide" :dunce:

I wasn't going to jump in the middle of this, but haven't we found out that a LOT of folks who have it are asymptomatic? I agree if you have a fever, you shouldn't go to work. But that's ALWAYS good protocol. Are you saying employers should have thermometers next to the time clock?

Not sure what you were getting at "work is voluntary" either. If your office is open, aren't you required to go unless you take leave, either sick or annual?
Fair points.

1). This is not the flu. We know what to expect from the flu. It may end up being similar in the end which is what I’m hoping for but it also may devastate the economy further and on a longer timeline if we don’t take precautions until we understand it fully.

2). Work imposed guidelines and testing are common. Don’t like it, find another career.
Not true. Name any white collar jobs that force people to go home if they exhibit cold/flu symptoms? Maybe in some service industries this exists, but I have yet to see anyone sent home for coughing/sneezing too much in the office.

Can We Discuss Flatten-the-Curve in COVID19? My Eight Assertions

Excellent and informed (he's a doctor, we have to believe him) commentary.
  1. The virus will not be contained.
  2. Tests will under-perform.
  3. US hospitals are now prepared and in little danger of being over-whelmed.
  4. Americans are not stupid. People socially distance not because police are bearing down on them, but because it makes sense.
  5. Public-health surveillance has improved. Tests may underperform but they will not be useless.
  6. Social distancing will not lower the infection fatality rate or IFR.
  7. The more we test, the lower the IFR goes.
  8. The endpoint of this crisis is not next month but in 1-2 years. And when we get there, we have to count people who died from COVID19 and those who died from other causes.

So it's ok to let people with coronary and other conditions be too scared to go to the hospital in order to save beds for potential COVID-19 patients?

Preventative measures have killed people and will continue to kill people. We need to stop being heat seeking, panic missiles about this virus and find a good balance between the positive and negative impacts of prevention and opening up. Putting too much focus on the benefits of prevention is short-sighted and stupid.
Agreed, the stories you're only starting to hear now are the ER's being eerily quiet and that the daily heart attacks and strokes that were happening before COVID are mysteriously no longer happening. Obviously they are, they're just happening at home now and staying there. Again, the message needs to be that hospitals need to open up, every elective procedure or visit that was going to happen should happen, and that visiting a hospital, even in the shelter in place mandate, should be allowed and should be encouraged. We've done a great job of making sure people are worried about getting Covid, but we've gone so far in doing that that people aren't trustful of venturing out and not dying. Great for shelter in place, terrible for getting people to the care they should be getting. And when the second wave and the third wave and all the successive waves hit that will hit pretty much no matter what until we have a vaccine or a reasonable treatment, those waves will hit hospitals with fewer and fewer resources and personnel, and could be worse as a result, because we acted with an "abundance of caution" right now rather than with some forward thinking rational thought.
Excellent post, agree...

...but how dare you be so inconsiderate and flippant about potentially spreading the Chinese Flu?!?!?!

That's his only chance.

Tara Reed unfortunately is a golden opportunity for the donks. They now have their excuse to get rid of Joe. I have almost zero concern about Trump beating Biden. I might have concern about Trump beating a handpicked replacement. Course that's the gazillion dollar question. Who would the donks replace Biden with? I know, this is the wrong thread for this..
That route will also provide peak outrage to the Bernie Bros. I love how the DNC totally fucked themselves again this time around.

GannonFan wrote: Thu May 07, 2020 11:50 am Good article here from ABCNews, going over how surprisingly hospitals were/are one of the hardest hit parts of the economy as a result of the pandemic, which of course is the one sector you don't want hindered during a pandemic. The one part that caught me was how much it's been hit...

The second hardest hit industry - that's crazy. With all the talk of re-opening things, I don't think there's been enough done to re-open hospitals and to make the case that going to the hospital is safe. There's such fear out there that hospitals are basically germ centers at this point that people are refusing to go to hospitals even if they're having a hear attack or a stroke. Heard on NPR the other day the story of a 40 some year old woman who spent 5 days at home having a stroke before finally going to the hospital, and by then there was so much damage they couldn't save her, when normally her condition was very recoverable if treated early.

People think that hospitals have been overrun, people think that hospitals are fill with Covid patients right now, and the fault for that lies with every leader out there at every level and it lies with the media. And in the push to get people back to work we haven't made this a big enough issue.

https://abcnews.go.com/Health/covid-19- ... s_card_hed
We just need to open up the county cautiously. Make sure the vulnerable are sheltering in place if they desire. Allow the same options at stores and restaurants for curb-side pickup, and virtual Dr Appointments for office visits when applicable, remote work options. The rest of the population should go back to business as usual. Fans at sports events, restaurant seating as normal etc, etc. This way we would protect the vulnerable and save the economy.
Except you don't need a lock down for vulnerable folks to shelter in place, and curbside pick up existed before these lock downs as did remote work options. I do like the virtual doctor visits and think this will be the norm for a lot of minor things moving forward.

Glad you are coming around to things going back to "normal". Time to open everything back up. :thumb:

That’s what we’re moving towards but we’re not there yet. Of all the talk of over reporting deaths, the NYT has a new article regarding Mexico and significant under reporting. Italy has revised its death count up to double.

We’re still learning. Patience, supported by increased scientific knowledge, grasshopper.
What are we learning that is going to change the best practices we should be doing anyway in the absence of a vaccine? Again, masks in public (or indoor spaces at a minimum), frequent disinfection, wash your hands, temperature checks of employees (and maybe customers) before entry, reduced capacity in stores, quarantine of employees (stay away from work) who fail a temperature check or are tested positive, social distancing where possible. Seriously, WE KNOW WHAT TO DO. What patience is warranted at this point? Like I said, a governor like Wolf here in PA and just waving his hand and saying "4 more weeks" to basically wait and do the same thing we would do today (and have been doing in places that are open for weeks now) isn't science based anymore, it's being cautious just to say you're being cautious. :ohno:
Exactly. Nothing changes until a treatment/vaccine is developed. That is why the "X more weeks" of the lock downs is so fucking retarded.
