From what I've heard/read, many American soldiers gave up information. Just enough info to stay alive. And not just in Vietnam, the greatest generation also collaborated enough to stay alive.

I gave a shit about him attacking McCain as soon as he did that thing where he insulted him for being "captured." Here we have this orange marshmallow who got a deferment during the Vietnam War because a Doctor wanting rent favor from his Daddy gave him what was almost certainly a false diagnosis of bone spurs insulting a guy who was flying fighter bomber missions into the teeth of heavy enemy defenses for getting captured.

To this day one of the most baffling things to me is how people in the military and/or with military experience could support him after that. It's even more baffling than the thing with White Evangelical Christians.
