I would have stopped at social media. People forget how recently it became widespread. In most of the '00s you didn't have a Facebook account unless you had a college student email, only more tech savvy teens hung out on MySpace, hardly anyone knew what Twitter was, and Snapchat and Instagram didn't exist.

It was all probably inevitable after social media became ubiquitous, but I would argue the one event that lit the powder keg was the shooting of Trayvon Martin in 2012.

What's funny to me is before that social media's legacy was helping people stay connected with others they didn't see often and helping organize protests in the Arab Spring but now it's being seen (you could say fairly) as being a source of outrage and echo chambers and fake news and the bane of democracy.

Trayvon Martin...
1) Zimmerman / completely disregard direct orders from the police to "not engage"
2) Zimmerman / stalk the kid almost a quarter mile
3) Zimmerman / then "defend yourself" by shooting him

Yeah, nothing to see there ...

Then Zimmerman goes on to prove a half dozen times over the next decade
that he's simply a piece of sh!t human being
Domestic violence charges
Pointing loaded weapon at girlfriend

:coffee:

Gee I can't understand why that would bother Americans

Zimmerman not being a hero doesn't make Martin a victim.

But even if we give a pass on the people that, that was followed up by Michael Brown (whose killer was exonerated by a DOJ who was out for his blood) and that shitshow at Mizzou.

So what exactly makes him NOT a victim?

It’s Rogan’s Show...so what? Most neutral, informative and best podcast out there.

My man crush on Rogan is almost as big as Chizzy’s for Sam Harris.

Not sure about anything else...
but the Trayvon Martin situation was a complete farce - stand your ground my ass
That was tracking / Stalking and murdering a person

Martin walked AWAY from Zimmerman twice... Zimmerman pursued
Zimmerman got his hearts desire fulfilled by the state of Florida
"To shoot a nigger" and walk away a hero...

Of course it all makes perfect sense to you...

which outlines precisely the problem with that one
I will never understand how Zimmerman walks in that scenario and others think it makes perfect sense

Trayvon Martin was the same product as the kid who shot up the school in Florida.

The district was trying to lower how many kids they suspended/kicked out of school and Martin was always on the wrong side of the law.

Kid was a thug. If it wasn't Zimmerman, it was going to be someone else.

This same policy is why the Parkland shooter was never dealt with accordingly.

I'll have to look, but just read where this policy has actually led to higher rates of bad crimes.
