If you could do it and were seen as responsible for it you'd be a one term President. But you couldn't because there is no way Congress would go for it. You've heard it before. According to the article at https://www.thebalance.com/u-s-federal- ... wn-3305789 only 38% of spending is discretionary and more than half of that is military spending.AZGrizFan wrote:Bullshit. I think that no matter what we accept in terms of fiscal policy, yes, we must accept the idea of constantly increasing expenditures as long as the country continues to grow. Even if we reduce spending per capita up front to some lower level, there will need to be an increase in overall spending from that point because the "capita" will increase.

Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Departments can be eliminated. DHS. Education. EPA. Etc., etc.. Freeze other dept growth. Eliminate raises. Cut defense spending. Eliminate all tax deductions, in conjunction with an escalating flat tax and boom. Mission accomplished.JohnStOnge wrote:If you could do it and were seen as responsible for it you'd be a one term President. But you couldn't because there is no way Congress would go for it. Typo. I meant to type I am a fan of tax decreases. But I don't favor them because I think....
I voted for Ronald Reagan. But I did not perceive him as making the case for tax decreases based on the idea that they would increase federal revenues over what they otherwise would have been. I perceived him as saying that government needed its allowance cut.
