True, but Ernie’s wordiness got him a house in Key West that I would kill for.

He also had a hunting cabin just south of us in the Blue Mountains. An old buddy of mine used to train his son Jack's bird dogs.

You know, when you transcribe what he says and then read it, its gibberish. But somehow, in front of his crowds, this stuff is entertaining and it works. When he speaks, he has this humorous delivery and mannerism that turns this dross into gold.

Only assholes or adults stuck with a high-school mentality find it "entertaining" and "humorous."

The rest of us think it's childish at best.

Personally I haven’t been able to stomach listening to a president speak since GW. I liked his folksy manner...since then, mmmm....like fingernails on a chalkboard.

During 2015 and early 2016 -- before the primaries were decided -- I'd come home and see that CNN or MSNBC were letting Trump's speeches go live, word for word.

Why did they do it? Because their ratings were better when they suspended their programming and let Trump go live. People were tuning in to see Trump. A lot of people.

Then, when the speech was over, the networks would go back to the studio, and their talking heads would take isolated statements from what Trump just said, and discuss these snippets. Many ridiculed him. Of course, by that point, most viewers who had tuned in to hear Trump were no longer watching.

So they gave hours and hours of free advertising to Trump, and any network rebuttal was pretty much ignored by the people who had tuned in for Trump.

That the ratings of cable networks like CNN and MSNBC popped when they were broadcasting Trump live was telling us something and the cable nitwits who thought their critical comments were effective rebuttals were, as usual, missing the story.

CNN gave Trump a platform and it is significantly responsible for him.

I think I stopped listening to the majority of Presidential speeches when "W" came into office. I was never really anti-"W" - he seemed like a nice enough guy, but his speeches were brutal to listen to. Obama early on, especially in the campaign, was good to listen to, but he became a one-trick pony once he got into office and it became dull. I think Clinton was the last one I really listened to repeatedly. I don't know how people can truly listen to Trump for as long as they do. I just wait for the transcripts with him.

Has anybody's opinion every been changed by a Presidential debate? It just seems like the candidates are trying to get a soundbite for their constituents. I would be more impressed if they fielded unscripted questions from the general public then the "debate" questions they have scripted.

We all say stupid things. This isn't any more different than the countless Bushisms or anything that Trump says on a nearly hourly basis via Twitter.

Which, i'm not sure anyone has made the association between Twitter and the first 4 letters in that word: Twit aka a fool. It seems rather appropriate. :coffee:

I highly doubt it. I'd wager that most viewers have already made up their minds or at the very least, are already leaning towards one party. The debates seem to be merely a formality at this point.
