Including other judges McConnell preferred as easier to confirm due to less baggage...

Unless a major piece of corroborating evidence comes forward, the ones who will be alienating themselves will be the Donks if they try to push this thing.

If Trump pulls back Kavanaugh, he will choose Amy Coney Barrett in his place.

He could get her through in no time, since there won't be hundreds of thousand of documents, as she never worked at the White House.

The Democrats are aiming for a pyrrhic victory here. They'd be better off confirming Kavanaugh. :twocents:

Nah, the GOP is already struggling with women and now Ford is going to testify. If the GOP plays this incorrectly, it'll hurt. Women are currently leading the charge (and blue wave) this election-cycle.

Just withdraw Kavanaugh's name, confirm another con, and move forward.

 No doubt.

If we made everyone who had a drink in high school and got a little frisky quit their job, our unemployment rate would be about 95% (because Amish and Mormons don’t drink).

Nope. Don’t stoop to the level of Feinstein’s manufactured hit job. Too many inconvenient coincidences in this concoction, and they’re all blue.

I don't care either way; a conservative will be selected for the judgeship no matter what.

I'm just saying the GOP's already pissed off enough female voters. Someone can save this prediction to use against me later if wrong, but all stats show women are going to be the biggest reason the Democrats win back the House (and maybe Senate). So why make an already bad situation even worse?

Again just withdraw Kavanaugh's name, confirm another conservative judge, and move on. Politically speaking, the GOP gets what it wants without the question marks (unless the Senate is lost).

No they're not. This is working in the Democrats' favor. As we speak Republicans are being cast as Neanderthals. No, it won't work with people who are solidly Republican. But it'll work with the squishy middle.

Like Orrin Hatch today very definitely and publicly showing he's already made up his mind.

And the Democrats are going to get a public hearing. Republicans are in a box. They can't be mean to the woman. And she's a flipping research psychologist. Little Mrs. victim is probably going to be way more than a match for Republican Senators trying to discredit her while all the while trying to deal with the "mean to the woman" thing.

The Trump Effect: Getting Maine Jeff to agree with JSO since November 2016!

Next thing you know, JSO will rescind his remarks about fags being perverted mental defectives instead of perfectly normal from birth.

It could bring in more first-time voters and/or increase the exodus from the Republican party. :twocents:

Also there's more to it than just "pussy grabbing remarks and porn star payoffs." It's the party of family values separating families, the GOP's attack on women's health, the Manafort texts revealing he forced his wife into orgies, the male-heavy representation in Trump's cabinet and staff, etc.

Eh, politicians and multimillionaires are often the same on both sides of the aisle. Stick around long enough and you'll see the other side get scrutinized. You were just a baby during Bubba Clinton's horndogging.

I guess I'm not understanding the GOP's reasoning, other than stubbornness. They can get the exact same results without the headaches if they simply nominate someone else, and might even look half-decent doing it if spun correctly. Otherwise, why get stuck on Kavanaugh in the #MeToo era?

Kavanaugh's a great nominee. Why back down to, of all people, Dianne Feinstein? This is all a calculated concoction.

Hellz no. Motor on.

Gimme a break, JSO...for years you've said here the main reason you support Republican presidential candidates for president is because of the SCOTUS nominations. It must kill you that Trump is GOP president that won the white house with 2 vacancies coming up in the first half of the first term.

There's not a chance in hell that if any Republican other than Donald Trump were in office that you wouldn't support ramming Kavanaugh through quickly, consequences in the midterns be damned. What was your opinion of Clarence Thomas and the Anita Hill fiasco, anyways? I bet you shrug that off.

September 17, 2018
Judiciary Committee to Hear from Kavanaugh, Ford in Public Hearing
WASHINGTON – Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) today announced that the Committee will hold a public hearing with Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.

“As I said earlier, anyone who comes forward as Dr. Ford has done deserves to be heard. My staff has reached out to Dr. Ford to hear her account, and they held a follow-up call with Judge Kavanaugh this afternoon. Unfortunately, committee Democrats have refused to join us in this effort. However, to provide ample transparency, we will hold a public hearing Monday to give these recent allegations a full airing,” Grassley said.

Below is the official notice for Monday’s hearing.

NOTICE OF COMMITTEE HEARING CONTINUATION

The Senate Committee on the Judiciary hearing on the nomination of the Honorable Brett M. Kavanaugh to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States will continue Monday, September 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 216 of the Hart Senate Office Building.
By order of the Chairman.

But that said, I bet Senator Spartacus cries tears of faux rage as he tears into Kavanaugh and then Senator Huxtable will have to try to upstage him.... somehow

Feinstein Refuses To Help Set Follow-Up With Kavanaugh's Accuser, Senator Says

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said in a press statement on Monday that he has tried to coordinate a follow-up with Judge Brett Kavanaugh's accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, with Sen. Dianne Feinstein's (D-CA) office but that she has so far refused.

"Anyone who comes forward as Dr. Ford has deserves to be heard, so I will continue working on a way to hear her out in an appropriate, precedented and respectful manner," Grassley wrote.

"The standard procedure for updates to any nominee’s background investigation file is to conduct separate follow-up calls with relevant parties," Grassley continued. "In this case, that would entail phone calls with at least Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Ford. Consistent with that practice, I asked Senator Feinstein’s office yesterday to join me in scheduling these follow-ups. Thus far, they have refused. But as a necessary step in evaluating these claims, I’ll continue working to set them up."

Grassley also highlighted Feinstein's decision to sit on the allegations for weeks while the vetting process and confirmation hearings took place.

"Unfortunately, committee Republicans have only known this person's identity from news reports for less than 24 hours and known about her allegations for less than a week," Grassley wrote. "Senator Feinstein, on the other hand, has had this information for many weeks and deprived her colleagues of the information necessary to do our jobs. The Minority withheld even the anonymous allegations for six weeks, only to later decide that they were serious enough to investigate on the eve of the committee vote, after the vetting process had been completed."
