It has become obvious that nobody really cares anymore (now we have the left feigning concern)

I've come to realize that in spite of the fact that there is more evidence of the bad things that happen to countries as a result of debt outstripping growth than there is for the effects of climate change, we are all too happy to ignore it

So I think the time has come to stop worrying - our creditors in the future will make our financial decisions for us (think of it as conservatorship for crazy old grandpa) - and then when our credit rating is hovering somewhere between welfare queen and meth whore, my family will move home and go back to subsistence farming and simpler times

sounds fine to me at this point
You were never a deficit hawk.

Want lower deficits? Increase taxes, decrease operating expenditure (wars, defense, walls), and invest into capital expenditures (education, alternative energy, infrastructure, healthcare).

Don't vote for the people that promise to lower taxes, increase operating costs, and decrease investments into society. You acknowledge "the evidence of bad things that happen to countries as a result of debt," yet don't acknowledge the policies you vote for have historically failed over and over again.
Wrong.
Typical lefty. wants to cut the things they don't like, and increase spending in their beloved SJW areas. The US doesn't have a revenue problem. It has a spending problem. How about this- cut federal spending 20% across the board to start. EVERYTHING.

You and your ilk have become so removed from reality that you think society investing in itself = socialism (as if America doesn't do that already). Apparently all wealth should move upwards and then trickle down to the rest of the population, because history has show that works.

Anyways I never believed that conservatives actually believe in supply side economics; they just enjoy the tax cuts for themselves. Might as well change the official GOP policy to, "F you, I got mine."

As I've said before, Conks used to want to improve America, but wanted to be fiscally responsible about it. Now they neither want to improve America nor are they fiscally responsible.

Scientist: Research shows climate change is an impending issue. Here are proposed solutions.
Congress: Thanks for doing your job; I'm not a scientist, but trust my fellow American knows his profession. Now let's find the best way to pay for the proposed solutions.

Today:
Scientist: Research shows climate change is an impending issue. Here are proposed solutions.
Congress: Fuck off Mr. science guy; I don't need to study to know what I'm talking about. Here's a big tax cut big oil, big coal. You've been there for America in the past, so you'll be there forever.

I don't give a shit if I'm schooling or being schooled. I just want sound economic policies that help Americans; if one of you conservatives actually proposed solutions that aren't based on fantasy, and solutions that actually give a damn about people and human dignity, I'd be all ears.

But neither economics nor sympathy are conservative strong points.

Education is a local and state matter, not something the feds should be spending $$ on. As far as the federal student loan program, all that has done is drive up the cost of tuition. The US already spends more on secondary education than most other developed countries, and more than any on post secondary:

And you want to spend more? :suspicious:

'Alternative energy' is a favorite of the left.

Lord know we already spend TOO much $$$$ on healthcare. We spend MORE THAN ANY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD.

Increased infrastructure is something we could probably agree on, but should cut elsewhere to get the $$$ for it.

Heck, with inflation + population growth yearly at 3+%, even just freezing spending across the board for 5-6 years would get a 20% cut in inflation adjusted per capita.
You want to increase it in one area? Cut it further somewhere else..

I agree with Trip that education is infrastructure (investing in the future of our youth) but agree with you that it should be a state and local matter. IMO our educational results have actually deteriorated as federal involvement has increased so more federal involvement is not the answer.

I also have to ask are Democrats actually more compassionate than Republicans, ie trying to improve people's lives and make them self reliant? Or is their underlying goal to make them reliant on the government?

80% maybe 85% in common... That's the big secret that our media system hides from us
Point being:
I only strongly disagree with about 20% of what trump is doing
and quite frankly that is about the same percentage that I strongly disagreed with Obama

The one thing I like about the Federal involvement in education is the data it collects. The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is a really interesting effort that yields some really good data that pertains to many issues.

Chizzy is good people. He acknowledges issues, sympathizes with people, and listens to data and research and science. A problem is presented and we might reasonably differ on how it should be solved.

The conks here live in a fantasy world. Except JSO and CAA (who I still disagree with policy-wise).

We're all complicated cases.

I won't speak for the two of you, but my stance on the issues I really care about are all over the political spectrum.

Guns: right
Abortion: left
Environment: left
Immigration: right
Corporate responsibility: left

But it doesn't matter who I vote for, because it's going Democrat every time. My vote in Delaware truly doesn't matter.

In retrospect, I should have voted Libertarian in 2016 instead of made Aleppo jokes about their pothead candidate, if for nothing else than to add one grain of sand on the scale in favor of a third party.
