Looks like the dude who finished second to Nikki Haley won the SC GOP gubernatorial primary.

Whatever happened to SC Donks? Are there no Foghorn Leghorns, er, Fritz Hollingses left?

In other news, Chelsea Manning lost to Ben Cardin in MD. Now, there’s a big surprise. :coffee:

If the news of that traitor isn't that he fell down a ravine and was eaten by wild dogs then I don't want to hear about it

Rep. Joe Crowley, the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus who was thought by some to be a future Speaker of the House, suffered a shocking primary defeat in New York's 14th House District Tuesday.

With 88 percent of precincts reporting, 28-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez -- who has never held elected office -- led Crowley by more than 3,600 votes.

Ocasio-Cortez, a Bernie Sanders supporter who has called for the abolition of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), had gained the endorsement of several left-wing groups, including MoveOn and the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Crowley outspent her $3,000,000 to $600,000. He was a Wall Street friendly who the Dems looked to for financing. Her win is a good thing for that reason alone.

The strong anti-establishment feelings are still running hot on the left.

:ohno: Who knows. Our last Donk Governor was a complete idiot. The nail in his coffin was his failure to reverse the Interstate so Charleston could evacuate ahead of a hurricane in his first year. That followed him and in 2003, he was voted out in favor of Mark Sanford. :ohno:

McMaster's opponent, Warren, is who I wanted to win. He's a Marine, favors legalizing weed and is a total novice. McMaster is the establishment and what's wrong with the GOP. Which makes me wonder why Trump - who wants to drain the swamp and against the status quo - would support him. Warren took the upstate but the rest of the state loves McMaster - for some reason unknown to me. He's raised gas taxes (which you can write off if you save your receipts). He's continued his predecessors policies but really hasn't done anything, IMO, that's his own. He's trying to get from under Haley's shadow. In the primaries, 58% of the voters voted for someone not named McMaster - where the hell were they yesterday?? But Warren was a bit too stiff and the people responded.

Now - if Ol Henry doesn't do anything protect those citizens that have been screwed by SCE&G and their failed nuclear projects, he's going to have a problem. People are pissed. People in Columbia and Charleston are pissed - and if you piss off Charleston, you're in trouble. My friends that are starting out in government, as Republicans, tell me that they are pissed and hold a lot of those in power responsible - including McMaster. Charleston is the economic engine of the state. It holds a lot of sway in state politics. Rates need to go down and people need to be reimbursed. SCE&G might have to go bankrupt or do some serious debt restructuring to get from under it's current problems. :twocents: :coffee:

I like that she won. Establishment politicians, of any side of the aisle, who out stay their welcome over numerous terms and become even more entrenched, need to be fewer in my mind anyway. I can somewhat stomach Senators staying on over decades (just somewhat) but the House is supposed to be rambunctious and dynamic and topsy-turvy - the more change the better IMO in that part of the legislature.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez credits talking issues, not Trump, for upset win in Democratic primary

Veteran Donk politician gets azz handed to him by 20-something nubile.

Maybe the donks will learn from this and talk about issues instead of screaming "Nazi! Nazi! Nazi! Nazi! Nazi!", but I doubt it.

I would hope so too - shouting Nazi and Trump is not a political strategy, and it only strengthens Trump. Talk issues and win on those issues. That would be a pleasant change.

They won't. They'll continue to push moderates away by NOT focusing on the issues.

No, just can’t stand McCain or Romney, they are just bitter that they couldn’t beat Obama. In addition, Romney is from a royal political family like the Bushes, Clintons, Kennedys and Rockefellers that all have a sense of entitlement, and most of them have no clue of how the real world lives.

I've been trying to tell the local donks but they aren't having any. I'm afraid they may double down on the "you have to vote for us because we aren't quite as filthy as their guy" strategy.

How they treat her is going to be a long-term indicator of the Democratic Party's ability to compete again in elections. Support of the donks for this fall is broad but of questionable depth.
