Ok, so what was going on before the creator created? What was he up to? Was he tied up with work? Did creation did just start out as a hobby? Did he go to creation school first to learn how to create? Where was he from?css75 wrote:Logic, think about it.Ibanez wrote: Says who?

Do you think Creation is taught at a Tech School or do you need specialized training, perhaps an apprenticeship before you can go out and create on your own?kalm wrote:Ok, so what was going on before the creator created? JohnStOnge wrote:Yes I've seen that quoted a lot. It's not a question of whether the United States is a "Christian Nation." It's a question as to whether the language "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..." was intended as it is interpreted today where there is disassociation between government and religion and government can't be seen as "supporting" religion. And to me the answer is obvious. First of all the plain English meaning of the phrase does not support today's interpretation. Secondly, the fact that Congress appropriated funds to hire a chaplain and held Christian church services in the House chamber shortly after the Amendment was ratified, with both Thomas Jefferson and James Madison attending those services, nukes any doubt that today's interpretation is not consistent with the understanding of the time.houndawg wrote:
"...the United States are in no sense a Christian nation..." Treaty with Tripoli, ratified by Congress 1790
Also, I don't think having that language in a treaty is all that compelling. It was a treaty with a Muslim nation and they needed to say something like that. I don't think it's an official declaration of the nature of the United States made just for the purpose of declaring the nature of the United States. I think It was something they included to facilitate getting the agreement.
You don't know shit. Once ratified by Congress it is the law.

Re: Concerned Catholics
Oh come on. The substance of the treaty was law. What we agreed to do and what they agreed to do. We are not a theocracy. But to act like our guys writing that we are not a Christian nation into a treaty with Muslims for obvious reasons is a big deal is nonsense. That wasn't for the purpose of agreeing, as part of the treaty, not to be a Christian nation.houndawg wrote:

Besides, the real point is that the idea of "Separation of Church and State" as it's touted today isn't the idea that was associated with it at the time. Whether we were a "Christian Nation" or not, our Congress appropriated funds to hire a Christian Chaplain then held Christian Church services in the House chamber. That's not government avoiding ANY facilitation of ANY religion.
