I don't know about the 10-1 thing on calling out left wing versus right wing partisans (I mean, JSO is officially off his rocker now so what was a rabid right wing partisan is now just a confused mass of jelly - not to be confused with the actual confused mass known as jelly). I mean, I probably call out your economic views more than others, but that's because you post more. Besides, I thought you were post-partisan, so how does calling you out end up tipping the scales towards left wing partisans? Are you somehow claiming you are a left wing partisan now, despite also being a post-partisan? Very JSO-like of you.

Completely untrue. :coffee:

Like the Hawk, I fought a hook for the first half of my career until I woke up in a cold sweat sweat one night with an epiphamy. I went to the range at first light and started making transformative swings, moving it both directions.

These days, I’m Bobby Locke with the opposite ball flight. Phenomenal hook putter but I prefer moving it left to right. :coffee:

Okay I exaggerated
but I was responding to an extreme exaggeration - so I matched hyperbole responses
Now go ahead and explain how my point is not accurate...

Your point that our agriculture is so dependent on illegal immigrant labor that we would see massive increases overnight without it is hogwash. The country could survive without illegal immigrant labor in the ag sector. Prices would go up some, but we would adapt:
-There is no magic wand that would make illegal immigrant labor disappear overnight. If it was somehow eliminated or reduced, it would be gradual..
-Labor costs would increase, but at the farm level they're less than 10% of supermarket food costs. WaPo article said about 8%, below says 5%-6%.
"...Further, research by Philip Martin, a leading expert on farm labor and migration issues, found that labor costs are negligible compared to the retail cost of produce. Martin in 2006 found that only 5-6 cents of every dollar spent on produce is due to labor costs. Therefore, if illegal aliens were removed from the labor force entirely, and labor costs rose by up to 40 percent to attract American workers, labor would still only account for 7-9 cents. ..."

Some of the points from th Exec summary on pages 1-2 of the below 33 pg report:
• Authorized workers are observed to be willing to accept wages that are 18 percent higher than unauthorized
workers in the fruits, nuts, and vegetable sector and 22 percent higher in field crops and grains.
• American citizen and legal resident farm workers work significantly longer hours compared with those who
are unauthorized.
• If unauthorized workers were replaced by authorized workers at the higher average wage rate authorized
workers currently earn, farms in the fruits, nuts, and vegetable sector would experience a total labor cost increase of 10 percent, and the increase for the field crops and grains sector would be 6 percent.
https://fairus.org/sites/default/files/ ... ev2013.pdf
-Increase in mechanization to replace manual labor due to the higher labor coats (this is already happening and has been for awhile- see 1st link).
-A creation of a much better guest worker program for seasonal ag workers than have now (alot of the same laborers, but would be here legally).

Nonsense, I'm a free trader, that spans both sides of the political spectrum, but is only really truly anathema to the far left. That doesn't make me a conk. I'm pro gay rights, anti-capital punishment, I'm pro-teacher unions, I'm pro-EPA (more centrist here - I don't think we need to roll the EPA back like conks do, but I don't think we need to be pushing forward on tightening regulations just for the sake of saying that we're tightening regulations so I'm not really in the donk camp either), I'm pro-restricting guns in many ways that would not be considered to be conk. You just don't like capitalism, so you group anyone who does under the conk umbrella. That's okay, we'll still let you enjoy the fruits of the economic windfall that is our country, even if you don't like how we got here. :thumb:

Having been raised in a farming community, I can assure you illegals are not needed, they took local high school kids summer jobs.

I also feel there should be a program implemented to give inner city kids some farm work. It would certainly give them a little perspective.

Agriculture is not dependent on migrant labor

Agriculture is adapted to migrant labor
