We have become a troll culture, and we have several Billy Goat trolls on this board (JSO, Trips, Jizzang to name three). I think the GOP will lose the House but not by much, and that the Senate will stay Republican. :twocents:
Well, if they lose the House by even one seat that will be enough to have at least some sanity restored because there will be at least one half the Legislative Branch without its head up Trump's rectum while acting in a totally corrupt manner. There would be a big difference if, for instance, that sycophant Nunes is no longer chair of the House Intelligence Committee and instead we have Democrats able to actually push investigation.

I don't think there is sufficient confidence that that will happen though. I hope it does. But it's a close call.
I love how you so quaintly equate the left with "sanity".

Yeah, ANTIFA riots, burning, looting, #BLM riots, burning, looting, #MeToo witch hunts where you're guilty until proven innocent...supposedly "normal" left wing folks literally losing their shit and melting down when something doesn't go their way, protesting at the drop of a hat....yeah...lots of "sanity" in the left's poster children.

Both are liberal and dislike Trump, but didn't care much about politics before. Thanks Trump. :thumb:

edit: we really need an automatic voter registration system when you become eligible.
That'll get them voting now!!!

The dirty little secret is twofold

1) we have a declining workforce... 40% of Americans don't have jobs
2) the top 10% of Americans own 84% of all the stock

"The top 10% of American households, as defined by total wealth, now own 84% of all stocks in 2016, according to a recent paper by NYU economist Edward N. Wolff... and by 2024 the top 10% will own 90% of all stock"

It says in the article that most of the 40% are Americans aged 16-24 who attribute their lack of working to being a student. Seems like people are simply prioritizing education over jobs in their younger years.

I actually can't believe we count that age group as part of any official numbers. They're affected by almost everything, from school to "I don't have a ride."

If this was already posted somewhere then sorry, but Beto O'Rourke must have given up on beating Ted Cruz and is now preparing for a presidential run. He made comments that police are "the new Jim Crow". In Texas that's basically being down a touchdown with just a few minutes left in the game and throwing a pick-6. He'll get crushed like that dumb-dumb Wendy Davis.

Maybe we need to emphasize more vocational and apprenticeship based training? Just a thought.

I was listening to the Timesuck podcast last night on Old Hickory and Dan Cummings pointed out how you didn’t need a college degree back then to become a lawyer. Instead of spending a fortune on a formal education you just needed some experience and to pass a test.

Of course that would make it easier to become a lawyer and we certainly don't need more of them. :?

I'm sure it's different elsewhere, but in my industry dedicated drafters are a dying thing. Architects and engineers typically draft their own plans. I get your point though, Every job is important, although it's also important to understand when some jobs are becoming obsolete and train for new ones.

A step up from electricians but the market for electric linemen is booming. Something like 60% of linemen can retire in the next 5-7 years. An area community college that trains them has a wait list of at least 1 year to get into the program. After that 1 year of school salary starts at around $50k. Within 4-5 years you can be making over $100k depending on who you work for. $100k at 23-25 years of age is pretty good for one year of school.

I was talking with my brother about this stuff and hadn't thought about it when he pointed out how the gaming industry is significantly larger than the film industry now and it needs artists, designers, engineers, and all sorts of other support staff. My oldest loves history and writing and said, how would I apply that to a career in gaming? I asked him if he'd ever played any history based warfare games (that's mostly what he plays on the PC) and if they had a storyline and were fairly realistic when it came to antique weaponry, strategy, and geography.

Yes and yes. That's also the way it was at my last job, although I had a drafter under me to keep production moving because of meetings and management tasks. But there are other jobs, like at a shipyard or other metalworks operations, where drafters create layouts for metal cuts and welds by robots.

I worked for the REA in College and the only part of the job that sucked was working outside in the winter. But as more and more lines go underground, the overhead stuff is slowly disappearing and in the winter it is more hooking up new developments which is all underground.
