Where do Nebraska's internets come from?

In Vietnam, it's a cable. Under the South China Sea. When the government cracks down on internets, they blame it on Chinese frogmen. Or A shark bit it.

If Comcast sez... Nebraska, you'll get your data just as fast as we'll allow... what is Nebraska going to do?
Look up the legislator that introduced it. A young democrat whose district includes the Univ. of Nebraska campus. He just guaranteed his re-election.

So...
Are the 27 other states and 16 attorney generals all college campus democrats too..?
Because the list of states putting together legislation countering the repeal is growing by the day

BTW:
Remember when the Republicans told us
we don't need those laws that were in place that monitor throttling because "it's imaginary"
"It's not a real problem and no business would do that..."

And it was just more dumb Obama legislation

How is this related to net neutrality? They signed a contract for unlimited data that has a clause in it allowing throttling after a certain amount of data is used. Many "unlimited" contracts have that. That's why it is usually a good idea to read and understand things before you sign them. And what kind of moron would email customer service about this? They couldn't find one person to call Verizon, ask to speak to a manager and get it resolved? :dunce:

Maybe ... just maybe.. if Congress could actually propose a bill that actually handles problems like this

Without loading it up with a bunch of other things that make the problems worse

That’d be nice

Net Neutrality is akin to having a bill that outlaws murder, and has a rider buried inside that promotes eating children

And then of course if you oppose the bill you are in favor of murder...

That's a great question
But there are a few things to keep in mind

1)
Our broadband infrastructure platform is the preferred data exchange
on which America does it's business (read any study or report)
1a)
Nobody disputes this anymore (read any expert analysis)

1+a) Soon you will come to the Conclusion:
The American Broadband infrastructure is the SINGLE MOST CRITICAL element to virtually every business today
short of access to actual electricity...

2)
The American Tax payer built and paid for the U.S. broadband infrastructure
Through a series of initiatives and programs totalling more than 400 billion in the 90's and beyond

3)
Virtually every expert that studies our modern economy agrees
that the U.S. Broadband infrastructure is a "critical utility"
similar to electricity & Water

3a)
These experts also agree that letting an unregulated private entity manage this infrastructure
is dangerous at best and down right destructive to growth and commerce played out fully

4)
Placing simple managed structure over the top allows Fire Departments / Police Stations and other public services such as airports etc. to have unlimited access to the Broadband Infrastructure critical to public safety

ISP's do NOT care about public safety
and yet they are a critical access point to a critical utility mandatory for public safety

So.... here we are
Yes, Verizon has fine print that basically says - we don't care if your child is dying or your house is burning
We can turn off your police department and fire departments access

All good points for public discussion. But irrelevant to the fact that the FD signed a contract for something that did not meet their needs and now are trying to blame net neutrality for their stupidity.

How exactly would an unlimited data contract not meet their needs..?

Before you answer be sure and check the lobby strength of the ISP's

Fun Fact:
ISP's are legally allowed to create contracts that misrepresent their obligation to the consumer
No other consumer industry has that kind of protection

Read the fine print. Unlimited data does not mean unlimited high speed data. My cell phone contract does along with probably most. Public Safety officials should be smart enough to negotiate contracts that don't have a limit.

I know this topic is your white whale but jeez....

Again:
It doesn't need to be printed at all
ISP's are immune to consumer rights laws and can pretty much say whatever they want
and do whatever they want in regards to services provided

So any contract with an ISP is irrelevant
All previous consumer rights laws as of now do not apply to ISPs

Get this:
In over half the states in this country the FCC can't even assist cities and municipalities against ISP's
They are truly immune to any prosecution or violation

and we built it and paid for it for them... isn't that fantastic
See what Lobby Money can do !!!!

it's been common since 2011

All true. I was a city manager for 15 years. I know the city issue well. I was actively involved in the legislative battle in Iowa when the telecom providers tried to get legislation prohibiting city ownership of telecom systems. Our city created a public private partnership to build an internet system. I current work with 6 cities that operate FTTH systems.

But none of this is relevant to the fact that the FD signed a contract that didn't meet their needs and then followed up the stupidity with more stupidity by emailing Verizon about it when they got caught with their pants down. If they didn't like this contract I'm sure their are other providers in the area for wireless services.

As long as you're admitting that an ISP / Telecom
can knowingly submit what in any other business would be called a fraudulent service contract

then yes we are on the same page...

It's really no longer Comcast's fault, they acted like any mega-corp would and bribed their way into a fantastic situation where they are protected on high...

It was starting to crumble a little around the edges recently...

Then Trump came along and just reversed everything Obama did (Because Obama)
Trump had no clue what he was doing he just un-did everything that might have been construed as "Obama"

So now we're back to square one again...
In another 20 years it won't matter

A year after net-neutrality’s repeal, the Internet is alive and well — and faster than ever
HERE’S A PIECE of news you may have missed: The internet is getting faster. The technology news website Recode reported this month that “US internet speeds rose nearly 40 percent this year,” with broadband download velocity now averaging as much as 159 megabits per second in some cities. The United States currently ranks seventh worldwide in broadband internet speed. That’s up from 12th a year ago.

Perhaps this strikes you as something less than a stop-the-presses revelation. The internet, after all, has been expanding and accelerating for the past 25 years. Why should 2018 have been any different?

Yet last year, when the Federal Communications Commission moved to repeal the Obama administration’s “Net Neutrality” rule, much of the liberal establishment went berserk. Many in the media were sure the change would mean the “end of the internet as we know it.” A lavish online campaign backed by dozens of organizations issued a “Red Alert,” warning that if the FCC under Chairman Ajit Pai overturned the Obama regulations, it would “give the big cable companies control over what we see and do online” and “allow widespread throttling, blocking, censorship, and extra fees.” A New York Times business journalist bewailed the coming demise of the internet — undoing net neutrality, he wrote, “would be the final pillow in its face.” Other tech analysts were even more caustic. Nilay Patel, the editor of The Verge, proclaimed that with net neutrality gone, the internet was doomed. (“Doomed” wasn’t the word he used.)

I know this isn't true because we were told the repeal of net neutrality would kill us all. I assume we are all dead and are just "living" in the matrix.
