Because the media focus and the liberal outrage always seems to be focused on the AR-15 (and because the mass shooters have tended to use that weapon) and because the retired Colonel up for the Pentagon job specifically referred to the AR-15 when he said it was "insane" that people can buy this. I wanted to know if the concern relative this gun, compared to a semi automatic handgun, was legit or if it was just hoopla over what the gun looks like and, thanks to the comments here, it looks like the latter - all hoopla.Col Hogan wrote:So, why the question specifically about AR-15s? No need to get snippy - not scoring any political points here - genuinely wanted to know more about the AR-15 and what it can and can't be used for and really, if that gun was allowing people to be more deadly when a shooting occurs. From this thread, it seems very likely that it doesn't and that run of the mill handguns could and would do the same harm. I'm fully aware of the AWB and the complete ineffectiveness with regards to controlling guns.

I agree - I think the real concern is the range of the AR-15 and the .223 - an errant shot would go further than what you are allowed to hunt with in the area, and would be more of a concern with more people and less topography to stop the shot. Or so says my colleague on the other side of the cubicle who hunts, both bow and shotgun, told me this morning.93henfan wrote:The inhumane argument is comical in a state that allows bow hunting too.
What would you rather be executed with if you were sentenced to death by bow or AR?

Don't be a fucking tool.
Fuck this stupid shitty topic. You people that ask questions only to drum up shit are dummies. Oh...the big bad .223. What about the .222 or the .224? What about the .22-250? or the .17? Heaven forbid we begin the discussion about regular big game rifles....7mm's, 300's, 325's.....and I don't want to hear a fucking word about the big guns that start at .375 H&H and up... Your cubical mate is a cunt.

Oh, and 93, if you plan on getting shot with a 9mm, I would want something other than a Hornady XTP...just sayin.

Also Gannon...Don't go using a .50 BMG to hunt in an area that is 10 square acres. But this topic is dumb. Blame the big bad AR because it is black...

You do realize that my position is that people that want to ban the AR-15 are in the wrong because you can do the same damage, basically, with a simple 9mm handgun? So I'm basically on the side that lefty-hysteria over the AR-15 is misplaced and misguided. Your reading comprehension is apparently lacking.grizzaholic wrote:Also Gannon...Don't go using a .50 BMG to hunt in an area that is 10 square acres. But this topic is dumb. Re: Why are AR-15 weapons Ok?
That sentence makes no sense. An AR can fire two different caliber of bullets.....223 is one, the other is much larger. How do they know which one your'e firing? And i know people who hunt (and kill) deer with a .22 LR. Trust me, with the amount of gunpowder behind that .223 round, it's hardly "inhumane". What's inhumane is gut-shooting them with a .30-06 or .308. Or missing the vital organs with a bow and arrow....Hell, my brother brought down a bull elk with a .22-250. And his friend brought down the other one with a .30-30.GannonFan wrote:Around here you can't hunt deer with an AR and .223 is considered too small to hunt deer - inhumane. Man. Killing a deer with a 22LR?
True story I told here in the past but will reiterate here: A fellow my dad worked with attempted suicide with a 22LR pistol in the 80s. He shot himself in the chest. Multiple times. And lived.
He recovered for a couple of weeks and brought his ass back to work.
