I'm not saying we're guilty of the same. I'm saying this isn't treated as an act of war. In fact, I didn't even mention us at all. Many countries shoot warning shots at other countries.

This also isn't the first time North Korea has shot a missile over Japan. It hasn't been treated as an act of war before...

Well, North Korea did the same thing in 1998 and 2009 - neither were treated as an act of war by Japan - or by countries with mutual defense treaties with Japan (like us).

That should have been your answer to my question instead of another question.

What happens if the missile fails and it lands on Japan?
Then Japan should fire a missile at North Korea and make sure it strikes their mainland. Tit for tat.

Yeah, I'm sure that's exactly what South Korea is recommending.

Those previous attempts were for satellites. Not ballistic missiles.

Anyone happen to catch this show on Nat Geo about a journalist going inside NK? She is the sister of one of the American women held in NK back in 2009. She was going in with a humanitarian aid doctor performing cataract surgery on a variety of NK citizens.

I had previously said that I think the attitude of the NK people towards their awful living conditions could change as quickly as one generation. After watching this, I'm not so sure. I now believe that many of the people of NK actually think they live better than the rest of world. Not that they are somehow on a higher level of spirituality or morality, but they think the rest of the world actually lives like them (no food, water, electricity, etc...).

It's an hour show (50 minutes without commercials) and IMO well worth the time. If you don't want to watch the whole thing, at least watch a few minutes starting around the 43:00 mark. It shows the reveal of the cataract surgery and the people's reaction. It was very eye opening in more than one way.

:thumb: I'll give it a listen. This is from the New Yorker and I found it to be well written. The author was on NPR last month and he had some great insights. I wasn't surprised to learn that the interpreter would never ask his questions the way he asked it.

I'll give you an example. At one point, when we were walking around in Pyongyang, I had asked people whether they had seen the city change very much over the decades. And the question, as it was interpreted to the North Korean man on the street, was our city is now full of glorious achievements and architecture that the world envies. What do you think is the most important achievement that we have created? And so the results of that were more suited to the second version of the question than the first. But in its own way, I found that also terrifically revealing because what you heard was the interpreter's effort to try to maintain this image - this mythology about the country.

I was approached by a smiling man in a crisp white short-sleeved button-down shirt with a small red pin on his left breast, bearing a likeness of Kim Il Sung—Kim Jong Un’s grandfather, and the first leader of North Korea. (Citizens over the age of sixteen are expected to wear a badge celebrating at least one of the Kims.)

I have no idea why SK was different, but obviously it was because that was in the 50's with no internet and no TV (at least there I'm sure). Who is going to give them internet? They don't have electricity, food, etc... in many cases now.
