I guess this has been going on all along but, having looked at the Republicans as the only check on the Democratic Party, I didn't see it clearly. Now that Trump is the face of the Republican Party I'm seeing it.

It's the overt dishonesty. It's just one incident but it's described in this article:

Paul Ryan, the house speaker, told those gathered not to leak the remarks.

When representatives for Mr McCarthy were contacted by The Washington Post, they initially denied the remarks were ever made. When The Post informed them they had obtained the tapes, the spokesperson then insisted it was a joke.

The reason I looked up the report on line is that I just saw a Washington Post reporter describe the situation. He said that at first the Republicans involved denied it every happened. Then he told them the Post had a transcript and they said the transcript was wrong. Then finally the Post told them they had audio and they had to switch gears and start saying it was a joke.

I guess one can say it's a small thing. But it's just one more indication of how dishonest the Republican Party is. And to me it's very sad because I had hoped there was some alternative to the Democratic Party. There isn't. The Republican Party is totally corrupt.

Mr. Honest Schoolboy Ryan was involved in this. There is no sugar coating it. He is a liar. Straight up. If there was any doubt about that fact it's been erased.

This isn't about Trump per se. It's about how the Republican Party has exposed itself. It has, over the past 18 months or so, shown that it is not a viable alternative. This thing with overtly lying the the reporter until the reporter let them know he had audio is just one more thing.

Trump is no Republican nor historically has he been Conservative
Strangely there's really no equivalent Liberal persona to match him and make an example comparative

Maybe if you morphed TV savvy Oprah and her hundreds of millions and Jill Stein's lunacy
you'd have a close match

But the point that gets lost in all this is that Trump is destroying the Republican Party
Slowly but surely he's making a mockery of their platforms and successes
whilst simultaneously showing everybody what whiny petulant children the Democrats are

The guy is breaking the whole thing

Early in 2015, senior Republican congressional leaders visited Ukraine and returned full of praise for its fight for independence in spite of Russia’s efforts to destabilize the country and annex some of its regions. And in June, coincidentally just before Mr. Trump announced his campaign for the Republican nomination, they met with Ukraine’s prime minister in Washington — one of many meetings I attended as a senior aide to the House Republican Conference.

As the presidential race wore on, some of those leaders began to see parallels between Russia’s disinformation operations in Ukraine and Europe and its activities in the United States. They were alarmed by the Kremlin-backed cable network RT America, which was running stories intended, they judged, to undermine Americans’ trust in democratic institutions and promote Mr. Trump’s candidacy. Deeply unsettled, the leaders discussed these concerns privately on several occasions I witnessed.

Some also questioned Mr. Trump’s attacks on Hispanics, Muslims, women and people with disabilities, or his positions on entitlement reform, discretionary spending and national security. Others were unnerved by his volatile temperament, egoism and authoritarian tendencies. In public, they occasionally offered light criticism of Mr. Trump’s most objectionable comments, but mostly remained silent for fear of antagonizing his supporters.

As Mr. Trump campaigned, his consistent affection for Russia’s president, Vladimir V. Putin, and apparent defense of Russian intervention in Ukraine raised further concerns. In December 2015, on “Morning Joe,” Mr. Trump said of Mr. Putin, “He’s running his country and at least he’s a leader, unlike what we have in this country.” He also equated Mr. Putin’s murderous regime with the American government: “Our country does plenty of killing, also” — a remark he has repeated as president.

Suspect public comments like these led one senior Republican leader to dolefully inform his peers that he thought Mr. Trump was on the Kremlin’s payroll, suggesting that Mr. Trump had been compromised by Russian intelligence. Other leaders were surprised by their colleague’s frank assessment, but did not dispute it.

I do think we'd be better off if there were no political parties. Like you're seeing it right now. Republicans control Congress so there's resistance to making an honest effort to investigate the Trump administration. And I think we all know that if Democrats were in control of Congress it'd be the opposite extreme. I've believed for many years that each of the major political parties is more interested in its level of power relative to the other major political party than it is in the best interest of the United States.

But, unfortunately, I don't see things changing in that regard.

I mean, theoretically... I think no parties would be great. But, I don't see how that would work in practice. People with similar views would just coalesce into new alignments and then they'd form parties.

Four parties would be good:
1. Populist right
2. Establishment Republican
3. Establishment Democrat
4. Populist left

Maybe add a centrist party in between the establishment R and D... but, it's hard to imagine what that would look like - maybe just an amalgam of people that don't fit in the other categories.

Evan McMormon is a joke, this column is one also. He is just tying to get his worthless name out to run for ancient Orrin Hatch's seat. This Russia thing is the biggest farce ever.
