Verizon Communications Inc. said it will give employees 50 shares of stock each, a $380 million bonus that the company said is the result of federal tax reform.

The share grant, which will vest over two years, will be available to all of the company’s employees, with the exception of about 2,500 senior executives, a Verizon spokesman said Tuesday. Part-time employees will get 25 shares.

With the stock currently trading at about $53, the award amounts to more than $2,600 per worker. Verizon employed 155,400 workers at the end of the fourth quarter with about 153,000 eligible for the grant, the company said. CNBC reported on the news earlier Tuesday.

Starbucks stock has been essentially flat over the last 2-1/2 years. Verizon is still about 12% lower than it's 1999 high and flat for the last 5 years.

It's an interesting move by the companies. If the shares are locked up for a period of time, it may incentivize employees to stay with the company, which helps the company in a low unemployment environment. However, If this creates more outstanding shares on the market, it dilutes the stock and reduces the value of the stock. It will be interesting to see how this works out. I would still rather have the cash.

In the initial, we're putting chain, a negotiated chain, we're putting a replacement for lottery or an end to lottery, and it could be a replacement, we bring people in from various countries, that come in based on merit and various other reasons, and we are going to build a wall. So those three primary things.
