JohnStOnge wrote:You know, you guys make a big deal about trying to act like a bunch of people answer polls falsely and I'm sure there is some of that. But when you look at what happened in the last Presidential election the Real Clear Politics average of polls they reported had Clinton up by 3 percentage points in the popular vote and she won by 2.1 percentage points. Also, if you look at just the two polls that tied for representing the latest period prior to the election the average was Clinton by 2 percentage points.

You guys can kid yourselves all you want based on your anecdotal stories about how you lie to pollsters or whatever. But the fact remains that the pollsters do a remarkable job of gauging public opinion.

I know it's popular to do the "polls aren't accurate" thing. But it's also ignorant.
I've never said a bunch of people answer polls falsely.

I said I answer polls falsely. I neither know nor care what other people do. Also, get off my lawn

If this is sustainable, the Dems can kiss 2020 goodbye. What are they gonna run on? I think more people will give credit for a booming economy and ignore the boorish behavior.

I think the odds will be impacted by whether or not the Democrats can come up with a good candidate. This is what had happened in October, 2016:

161,000 jogs added in October
Unemployment down from 5.0% in September to 4.9% in October
Average hourly earnings up 2.8%, the fastest growth since 2009

The economy was doing about as well as it is now in terms of trajectory in October, 2016. The jobs number is a little lower but remember that overall jobs growth for 2016 was higher than it was for 2017. Unemployment had declined and it was in a declining trend from a much higher number associated with the "great recession." But the incumbent Party's candidate didn't win. We'll, more people voted for her. But she didn't win the electoral college because the Democratic base did not have enthusiasm for her.

I think the biggest problem the Democrats have is identifying a charismatic candidate who is going to energize their base. But it could happen. Remember there was a time when Bill Clinton was one of the seven dwarfs vying to take on George H.W. Bush.

Meanwhile Trump is truly a really bad candidate. And the demographics will be sightly more in the Democrats favor in accordance with the underlying trend in that regard.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

I sincerely believe if you can't find something to enjoy about this presidency and its administration
You're missing some major data points as well as have no sense of humor

Is the President a childish twat... Absolutely
Is he alarmingly dishonest... Check
Is he shockingly uninformed... Obviously

But, if you stop there you're going to miss the show
and largely miss the real takeaway points

His foreign Policy
without question is a better position for America considering the present global situation

His corporate policy
Is simply embracing the principals that built this country (Like it or not, American is Corporation First)

Having one last old white bigot pseudo billionaire
run the show before we completely switch over to socialism in the next 20 years isn't all bad

Initial planning for the military parade requested by President Donald Trump is now underway, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford has confirmed.

It is expected that the Army Military District of Washington, which oversees some military activities in the city, will be designated to coordinate parade planning, according to a senior defense official.
One option being considered is to hold the parade in November in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the ending of World War I on November 11, 1918, the official said.
