JohnStOnge wrote:What a dumbass this guy is. Like just now I saw a clip of him saying that the Democrats would be blamed if there is a Government "shutdown." And as part of his argument as to why that is so he said most people want his border wall. That is absolute nonsense. That has never been the case. The 2016 election exit polling estimate on that issue was 54% opposing his wall vs. 41% supporting it. It's gotten nothing but worse for his position since then. The latest poll I could find on it just now was in September but it had 63% opposing it vs. 33% supporting it.

The man is an idiot. If there is a Government "shutdown" the Republicans will be blamed. Anybody with a lick of sense and familiarity with the history of this sort of thing knows that. And if Trump wants to "shut down" the Government based on wanting that stupid border wall thing? OMGosh.
OMGosh? Like...as if!

Eh. That’s all a result of Obama and his stifling regulatory policies.

It can't be - CNN had the story buried deep down on their front page, several scrolls down from the top.

According to pre-election Trump all that stuff is fake news anyway. The economy growing was fake. The stock market going up was fake. All fake.

BTW notice it says three year high. That means that three years ago during the Obama Administration it was higher.

I looked at that when people were making a big deal out of two consecutive quarters of >3 percent growth and acting like that hasn't happened in a long time. Actually there were two consecutive quarters in 2014 where GDP grew by >4 percent than by >5 percent. Also note that starting with the last quarter of 2013 there was a period where three of four quarters were characterized by >4 percent growth.

At this point there is no significant change in the growth pattern. Maybe there will be. But right now there isn't. The only real difference is that before he got elected he said the numbers were fake then after he got elected he decided they are real and he wants to take credit for them.

Oh...this is why I came to this thread:

Remember: I opined very shortly after Trump announced his candidacy and started opening his mouth that he is mentally ill. Just want to make sure that, after it pretty much becomes accepted by all that he is indeed mentally ill, you guys remember that I recognized it very early on.

YEARLY GDP growth:
Obama:
2009: -2.8%
2010: 2.5%
2011: 1.6%
2012: 2.3%
2013: 2.2%
2014: 2.4%
2015: 2.4%
2016: 1.6%
http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.GDP.MKTP.KD.ZG

So 8 year avg under Obama 1.52%. Even excluding the 1st recession year, the last 7 years averaged a paltry 2.14%..

Trump so far:
2017: 2.53% avg through 3 quarters (all 3 quarters were revised upward from 1st reports)
1Q: 1.2%
2Q: 3.1%
3Q: 3.3%

That is not, at this point, a "significant" difference. Look, even if you get a "significant" difference when the 4th quarter comes in you're in a situation where the economy has been growing for a long time with momentum established. But you're probably not going to get a "significant" difference regardless of what happens in the 4th quarter.

The main thing is this:

I think if any of you are intellectually honest and you look at that graph of quarterly GDP growth I posted you would not say that just by looking at the graph you could tell that something significant had happened around January, 2017, to change the trajectory of the growth rate. BTW the same thing is true if you look at a graph of the Dow Jones Industrial average 2008 - 2017. This idea that there is some kind of definite improvement in the trajectory of things since Donald Trump took office is just nonsense.

All you guys really know Trump is mentally ill. There is a point at which you don't need to be a psychiatrist to see that. And Trump is WAY past that point.

It's like if I see someone on their hands and knees throwing up on the sidewalk I don't need to be a MD to know they're physically ill. I might need to be a MD to diagnose the problem. I might need to be a MD to treat them. But I don't need to be a MD to know they are ill.

And neither do you guys. Just fess up and admit it looks like the guy has serious mental problems.

If what you're saying is you think that I'm mentally ill that doesn't matter. Go back to the physically ill illustration. If I'm on my hands and knees throwing up on the sidewalk and I see another person next to me doing the same thing I know that person is physically ill. The fact that I am also physically ill is irrelevant to the accuracy of my conclusion.
