The article is biased garbage that talks about tribalism and reconciliation while blaming only one political party.

Tribalism exists but it’s mostly a symptom. I think the majority is closer to agreement or at least acceptNce on many issues. The binary nature of our politics and dislike of the other is what drives people apart rather than embracing “my side”.Pwns wrote:That comment is spot on.CID1990 wrote:Thomas Friedman has an article in the NYT today, titled something like the American Civil War Part II or something like that. Not disagreeing with you two here. I agree it goes back to narrow mindedness.

For the Pennsylvania drivers.
https://www.constructionequipmentguide. ... bill/42154A bill to put speed cameras in active construction zones on the state's highways, as well as the turnpike, was approved by the Pennsylvania Senate on Oct. 2, and is now on its way to Gov. Wolf, the Reading Eagle reported. The bill was approved by the House the week of Sept. 24. According to local law makers, it is meant to help make work zones safer by cutting down on speeding.

I just watched a video of the new Amazon Go stores and I think we need to strongly consider a universal basic income. The tech Amazon is using is absolutely bonkers; it's going to usher in the age of stores with no employees. And Walmart is already developing its own system with Microsoft.
Once the rest of the industry follows - and it will - I don't see how we make up such a large portion of the American economy. I don't say we need UBI because of "handouts" and "socialism," but of genuine concern that the US (and world) economy won't be able to make up the jobs elsewhere.

I'm not completely opposed to a government provided basic income.. in fact I think it already exists for those who need it (see Sec 8 housing, welfare, WIC, etc)
But let's say we do enact UBI:
How much should it be? The same in New York as it is in Oklahoma? The same for a couple with 5 kids as a couple with 2?
And what welfare programs should we drop in favor of it? In other words, once Johnny has his UBI, what assistance can we safely stop offering him?
And I'll even come out and say it in advance... this is a total trap. Klam might advise you to tiptoe on past it

Drunk birds in Minnesota!
http://time.com/5415378/drunk-birds-minnesota/A flock of drunk birds just looking for a good time out on the town is disrupting the peace of Gilbert, Minnesota. In Gilbert, an early frost has fermented local berries, leading to young birds getting drunk from eating them. This, in turn, has led to unorthodox behavior from these winged residents: flying lower than usual, crashing into cars and windows, and losing their balance...

I can't wait for the day when I can put a self check-in and payment kiosk on #1 tee.
Of course the golf demographic is similar to Delaware football nation and not exactly what you'd describe as "early adopters."
The simple solution to New York vs. Oklahoma is to move all the UBI New Yorkers TO Oklahoma. They'll fit right in for the most part after they each get over the accent thing. Think of it as a progressive Trail of Tears.

You can't but you can set a flat UBI that works in Oklahoma. If someone wants to stay in New York then they have to make up the difference.CID1990 wrote:How can you tell people where they can and cannot live, klam? Are you some kind of Leninist? So it would be a federal program? That would make sense then. Or even better, let each state decide and if someone can’t afford it even with UBI they can move to where the wind goes whipping ‘cross the plain.UNI88 wrote:You can't but you can set a flat UBI that works in Oklahoma.
