Miscellaneous news items that don't warrant their own thread
Re: Miscellaneous news items that don't warrant their own thread
THe house we lived in for 2 years had a rail line running behind the property - about 20 yards from the house. We always joked that one day a train would derail.
Well that day was last Friday and the train derailed less than 1/4 mi from our old house. We moved in April, to the downtown area and literally 3 minutes from out old house. We heard all the sirens and saw the helicopter, figuring it was all for the Strawberry Festival which was beginning at 4pm on Friday.

The issue is protected class. If you don't have a problem being woken up by your tenant, good for you. But the moment you make it a protected class means that if I don't like being woken up by my tenant, I still HAVE to rent to them or fear being sued.Ibanez wrote:Being a nuisance is one thing. But why wouldn't you rent to someone b/c they work the graveyard shift? Many first res ponders and medical professionals work the night shift. It just seems silly to me. If they have stable employment and the ability to pay, you have them sign a lease and lay out all expectations. If you don't want to rent out to college students or some group that is more likely to be a problem - then that's your prerogative.89Hen wrote: So your answer is yes, occupation should be a protected class.
What if I have a duplex and I don't want to rent to a night shift operator because I'm afraid their hours will conflict with mine? For example, I had an upstairs neighbor when I lived at the beach who was a waitress at a bar. She would arrive home at 2am, often drunk (puking drunk) and she would get in a fight with her boyfriend and then have loud make-up sex two or three nights (mornings) a week. I had to be up at 6am most mornings to work my day job. She was an ugly pig to boot.
If you put occupation in as a protected class, I have to rent to her if has owned that building and I'd probably have a hard time getting rid of her without fear of being sued.
The last time I rented an apartment my next door neighbor was a paralegal by day an an avid gamer at night. She was hot though.
I guess it all depends on your circumstances and comfort zone. I wouldn't care how you made money,as long as it was legal. I would only have a concern if you started damaging the property and weren't paying.

I am not sure I really understand what is all going on in that article. And I do not think the author does either.

BTW: For some reason a monk sitting on top of a mountain popped into my head as I was reading that and it was surprisingly relaxing.

In this context, their tearful displays are a form of emotional and psychological violence that reinforce the very system of white dominance that many white women claim to oppose.
Someone's got to write a book called "Shit SJW Nuts Say". In a saner time this would be called over-the-top satire.

Whatever you make of this story, I don't really care, but I keep getting hung up on one point... Muslim is not a race.An employee tries to separate the two and eventually a woman, who identifies herself as the supervisor of the coffee shop, asks the man to leave.
“Why are you not serving him?” the woman asks the supervisor.
“Because he is disrupting a public place and being very racist,” she says

Actually, that is precisely what the left has done with criticisms of Islam - they have conflated it with race89Hen wrote:http://www.foxnews.com/food-drink/2018/ ... woman.html

that my negative affliction with Islam is really just thinly veiled racism
Which confuses me...
But there's no easy way to point out that something is alarmingly flawed (such as Islam)

If the cop did decide to unload on her - the video wouldn't be seeing the light of day anytime soon.

If the cop did decide to unload on her - something tells me the video would be harder to come by.
I’m enjoying the butthurt from the “cops must have cameras” crowd over the exact thing I predicted - exonerated cops in the vast majority of cases

That's why we saw very little noise from police organizations over the idea
Internal Affairs offices in PDs all over the country breathed a sigh of relief because their jobs just got exponentially easier - "Let's just look at the video, shall we?"
My only reservation is that there will also be some cop snuff porn getting out there - but that's the price most cops are willing to pay
