I'd also add that while using Pat Tillman's image, if you really give a shit, donate to the foundation in his name that helps veterans.
FFS. Please donate your Nike shoes so that someone else can show off our logo.
But burning the American flag instead of donating it to a school, cemetery, VFW, etc. is OK.
And please boycott Chick-fil-A.

Not really the same but how about burn the flag in protest AND donate another one?

It's proven that brands have more resonance when they stand for something, especially among millennials.
Which is not new for Nike in advertising.

Taking the right side of history, no matter how lucrative, is win-win for them.
Idiots burning their shoes and Trump blasting it is a win too.

I saw a guy analyzing this situation on CNBC today. This is a no brainer for Nike. They have lots of business overseas where most people can't stand Trump and are on the players' side. In the United States the young demographic they're targeting also overwhelmingly dislikes Trump and is on the players' side.

They're pissing off a bunch of old White people who mostly won't buy their product anyway while making points with the overwhelming majority of the people they're trying to sell to.

I'm an old White American. But that's not who Nike is targeting. They're going to gain a lot more by doing this than they're going to lose.

It's a myth that there's any racial bias in police killings.

This article pretty much breaks down the data from several studies that debunk it. Most of the studies that do show bias just use the logic of "black men are more likely to be killed by police, therefore racism".

Honestly, I don't care a whole lot that they aren't standing for the anthem. I think it's kind of disrespectful, but nothing that's going to cause my to want to boycott the NFL. My problem is the enabling of toxic identity politics and oppression narratives that blame racism and ignore the real cause of the problem.

Regardless of the results of the studies, there are still poor decisions made by cops and far more poor decisions made by people that the cops are trying to apprehend. So the original message is still valid to discuss, bring awareness, whatever. I said from the beginning that it was a stupid way to get the message out.

So let's see if Nike will help with the original message. So far they seem to be focused on the reaction to the way the message was marketed, and not the message.

Then the catchphrase should be "all lives matter". Apparently that's offensive though.

Nike without doubt spent beaucoup dinero researching this issue and they will come out way ahead. The butthurt crowd will mostly be dead in ten years and they can probably use the temporary dip in sales to not pay any corporate taxes. :thumb:
