I boycotted the NFL 10 years before Humperdink.
I stopped buying overpriced Nike products about 7-8 years ago.
So, these "boycotts" are really easy for me...

It's really easy to be "courageous" when you've earned enough money in less than a decade that you should be set for life and your career is getting near its end as the read option trend in the NFL declines.
There's no way that Nike doesn't know they're taking a gamble here. They're probably just pandering to young and naive athletes. Maybe it'll work out, maybe it'll backfire.

You know what? There's a lot of truth to that. For some reason everybody in entertainment is after the younger Demographic. And the younger Demographic is pretty solidly anti-Trump and anti-Republican right now.Ibanez wrote:Guess what- you aren’t their demographic. Who cares about Nike's or anybody else's business decisions?
They have obviously decided that either a) those who disagree arent numerous enough to affect the bottom line or b) they have decided that their bottom line doesn't matter
either way, its their decision

The apparel business is not about making quality products, it's all about image and can you get athletes and celebrities and cool kids to wear your stuff.
That, and when Trump tweets out angry tweets at them it'll backfire.

I think there's still a few quality apparel places left; Patagonia immediately come to find, but you definitely pay for the quality. However something like UNIQLO is ridiculously good for the price point, but their stuff is basic-to-boring (although the minimalism is how they get away with the low price/high quality):Pwns wrote:The apparel business is not about making quality products, it's all about image and can you get athletes and celebrities and cool kids to wear your stuff.

Don't own a single Nike, UnderArmor, Adidas, Reebok, etc brand item. They make the same quality shit as a generic brand, put their emblem on it, and slap on a 50%-100% markup.

Trying to picture you wearing Jordans after they do a Palin ad campaign next year.

I have Patagonia shit from the 90’s. It’s worth the price. plus you can always shop sales or do like my friend and pick up brand new stuff at shop goodwill.com. And they are one hell of a company when it comes to doing the right thing by their employees and the environment.∞∞∞ wrote:I think there's still a few quality apparel places left; Patagonia immediately come to find, but you definitely pay for the quality. I’ve also been buying Free Fly Apparel which is all bamboo and fairly durable.

Re: Colin Kaepernick
I got some New Balance shoes because I tutored some friends' son on statistics when he was in danger of flunking and not getting his degree and they gave me a gift card. Now I hate to run in them and get them sweaty.
Always in the past I just went and got shoes from Wal Mart for like $20 to run in. Now I've got $170 running shoes and I feel bad about getting them dirty/sweaty.
But they are nice shoes anyway.

Re: Colin Kaepernick
Never really bought shoes from commercials or advertising. I would have no problem buying Nike products if they were priced right and good quality and priced right. I see lots of sexagenarians and older, wearing and using Nike products. I have Nike woods and MacGregor irons in my golf bag. Wear a Nike baseball cap daily. This is all just media frenzy.AZGrizFan wrote:Probably right. Because they want the 17 yr old that’ll be 4 pairs a year to your 1. They want the person that cares about who is selling what.AZGrizFan wrote:Probably right. Yup. But I control the buying in my house with two teenage boys and I have been pushing them to Under Armor first for the last few years. Now this is not an anti-Nike move. It is a "thank you" for sponsoring Old Dominion athletics (It's a long story that involves Steph Curry, but pretty cool). I take note of sponsors for things I care about and try to reward them with my patronage. This includes banners of local sponsors hanging on the baseball fields of my sons' little league. And I try and make a point to say I'm coming to them because of their sponsorship, so they know it is paying off and hope they will continue.Ibanez wrote:Because they want the 17 yr old that’ll be 4 pairs a year to your 1. Doubt this is a real Nike statement, but still, it makes some great points...
I'd also add that while using Pat Tillman's image, if you really give a shit, donate to the foundation in his name that helps veterans.
