YEs... Very nice...93henfan wrote:I also wanted to add that I'm freaking loving my scandal TDI (with the EPA-mandate software fix of course). Bought it in May after it was released from purgatory, already put 10K miles on it, and getting 54.9 mpg so far. $8,000 off, 0% financing, and 162K mile warranty.

Now Daimler Benz busted. Those Kraut engineers are crafty...
"...The Bild report cited emails from employees who flagged that a number of software functions potentially fall foul of U.S. emissions regulations. One was designed to help a tank of AdBlue fluid, which helps eliminate harmful exhaust gases, last for the entire period between a car’s servicing checkups. Another, called Slipguard, could recognize if a car was on a test stand and regulate the dosage of AdBlue, the newspaper reported...."

The shame of all this is how many fuel efficient light-duty diesel vehicles will never be brought to the US because of EPA/CARB heavy-handedness. The emissions put out by a cheating TDI or Mercedes is probably on the order of 1/100th that of a legal Peterbuilt or Kenworth. And probably on the order of 1/1000th of some hick with a coal-rolling overfuel tune on his Cummins/Powerstroke/Duramax short-dick redneck chariot.BDKJMU wrote:Now Daimler Benz busted. Anyway, I'm glad I was able to purchase a fixed new final year TDI. The economy has been the best of the four TDIs I've owned. 55.6 mpg so far through 23k miles. Simply incredible example of German engineering: http://www.fuelly.com/car/volkswagen/go ... tdi/618927

Literally every small truck and SUV over here is a diesel. You have to really search to find a Ford Ranger with a gas engine
Don't get me started over Detroit and their "clean" agreements with cafe standards and their engineered short lifespan cars
