Chizz, the space shuttle was designed in the late 1970s with an orbiter and SRBs that were reusable, and it was in use for 30+ years and to my knowledge NASA never really did much further developing spacecraft. I would hope that SpaceX could do some things NASA wasn't able to after all those years of stagnation. They did, but in the grand scheme of things those things you list aren't really a big deal.

SpaceX's innovations might make repairing satellites cheaper and profit from sending millionaires into orbit, but this stuff about sending construction equipment to the moon or Mars is silly talk until we start using more energy-dense fuel. It takes a space shuttle weighing several million pounds including fuel to launch 50,000 pounds of payload. The fully-loaded Saturn V that took a tiny capsule and 3 guys to the moon was even heavier.

I also get that people love their Teslas, but for more practical people that don't care about spending an arm and a leg on a car that's a status symbol, it's not going to sell and it's not a practical solution to reducing CO2 emissions.

"worlds greatest innovator" is pushing it.
I suspect you're trolling me...
Based on the weakness of the ^ above observations

Yes:
The Space Shuttle was indeed advertised as "reusable"

But.... a whole bunch of it was NOT reusable
and as a matter of fact it cost as much to refurbish the remaining reusable portions
as it did to build an entire NEW Space Shuttle (EVERY SINGLE TIME)
and the turnaround time was never less than 6 months per launch

Facts ^

What SpaceX is doing is not even in the same league as the NASA Space shuttle debacle
Add to that NASA said that what it requested from SpaceX couldn't be done

and yet... Here we are

By what measure would you say a Tesla luxury vehicle kicked the global industry's ass for 5 years? Sales? So, like, did it have more sales than BMW's top model? Mercedes Benz? Jaguar? Cadillac?

I'm thinking that Tesla was never a significant factor in the auto industry in terms of sales.

John,
Perhaps you were not aware that Tesla sells "Electric Cars"
and builds the best selling electric car of all time (you'll want to write that down)
as well as the number one selling electric car in America for 2018

:geek:

In the category in which they build vehicles - they've been kicking the global car industry's ass for 5 years
and BMW / Volkswagen the largest auto manufacturer in the world admitted as much 5 years ago

Nothing ^ about that or what I said previously is hard to understand
Why do you have such a hard time understanding simple things like that..?

But you seem to take great joy in condescending behavior toward everyone on this board who doesn’t agree with you. Whether it’s JSO, or pwns, or Baldy, or anyone else that you perceive to be your intellectual inferior (and you shouldn’t assume that any of them are), I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself.

And ask 93 or CID — both of whom I’ve met, and like very much — how “old and tired” I am.

Three things:

1) This is where I'm supposed to say that you're a triggered snow flake...
Because that's what modern Republican training demands (See: 93 on that)

2) JSO knows how to handle me...
he's been dealing with me for years around here - he can take care of himself quite well

3) CID 93 and JSO all have deeper insights and far more knowledge than me on all kinds of things
and that doesn't keep me from getting my ass kicked by them routinely (also see: Flaggy and 89 here)

Finally:
I would guess that some recent political issues have hit home with you
and they have you disappointed and frustrated
You may have lost sight of the fact that Flaggy, Gannonfan, 93, 89 as well as Ibanze and even CID
all beat the sh!t out of me regularly - if that doesn't cheer you up nothing will

JSO can handle me as well, although we disagree deeply on many levels. As much as I needle him, he keeps his head. Smart dude.

And you’re correct: you routinely get your ass kicked around here. As for me, I am frustrated about a lot of political stuff, and I can pretty much say what I like because I have no law partners to tiptoe around, and my family understands me.

If your statement to begin with had been "In the category in which they build vehicles - they've been kicking the global car industry's ass for 5 years" I would not have questioned you. But that's not what you said.

What you said is, "When your luxury electric vehicle kicks the global automotive industries ass for 5 years
as an independent - I'd call that a significant accomplishment." Tesla's electric vehicles did not ever kick the global automotive industry's ass. They were always a minor factor. Now, maybe you meant to limit the statement to electric vehicles. But if you did you forgot to do that.

Good to see cats are at the bottom of the list.

Who should be spared if a driverless car has to make a fatal choice?
One day, in the not-so-distant future, variations of that problem will likely confront driverless cars. For instance, a lady carrying a bag of groceries jumps in front of vehicle. Avoiding her would cause the car to slam into a biker or collide head-on with a minivan on the way to school. What’s a car to do?

In a recent study from MIT, researchers polled more than 2 million people from over 200 countries to determine a hierarchy among prospective casualties.

Yep, pure dick move, and I'm a diesel guy. Just not a diesel pick 'em up truck guy.

I'm pretty convinced that the average diesel pick-up truck driver who didn't purchase their truck for actual work, probably has an average penis length of about 3.5 inches, erect. There are some serious manhood issues going on there.

Plus, they've almost all deleted their DPF and have an overfueling "roll coal" tune installed so they can lay down black clouds in front of their perceived enemy (Prius and Tesla drivers). I'm not sure how often you see that in DC or Northern Virginia, Trip, but that is a thing in North Carolina, Eastern Shore Maryland, Slower Delaware, and everywhere else that rednecks live.

I don't disagree. The proper name for the region between the western Philadelphia suburbs and Ohio is "Pennsyltucky".
