DOJ Memo on Marijuana Use

Post by Ibanez »

The Obama administration said Thursday that it would not challenge laws legalizing marijuana in Colorado and Washington state as long as those states maintain strict rules involving the sale and distribution of the drug.

In a memo to U.S. attorneys in all 50 states, Deputy Attorney General James M. Cole said the Justice Department is “committed to using its limited investigative and prosecutorial resources to address the most significant threats in the most effective, consistent and rational way.” He stressed that marijuana remains illegal under federal law.

Note to the DOJ:
No one in the States Attorney's offices of Washington or Colorado really give a flying f*** what the FED's think on this matter and have expressed that sentiment openly

I'm paraphrasing but it went something like this after the first volley a few months back:
"The threats from the DOJ fall of deaf ears, we respond to the citizens of Washington State and look for only constitutional guidance from the Federal DOJ"

This is simply the DOJ saving face in that stand-off from 4 months ago
Washington and Colorado did not flinch when the FED's blustered forth
So here we are...

PHOENIX — A 31-year-old father whose infant son died after being left in a parked car in the Phoenix summertime heat has been arrested because he was smoking marijuana at the time, police said.

Daniel Bryant Gray, 31, was booked into a Maricopa County jail late Thursday, charged with manslaughter and child abuse, Sgt. Tommy Thompson said.

Police earlier said 3-month-old Jamison Dean Gray died after his father had gone to a northeast Phoenix sports bar where he worked as a kitchen manager at about noon on Wednesday to check on business.

Outside temperatures were about 100 degrees, but interior car temperatures are frequently much higher.

At first, police said the father was distracted and forgot about the boy. However, Thompson said investigators developed information that Gray was smoking pot with a co-worker and forgot that his son was in the car.

When Gray remembered, he went and got the unresponsive baby and took him into the bar and called 911.

I don't have a strong feeling one way or the other when it come to pot legalization, but if you are using this story as an argument for criminalization, that's some far reaching bullshit. Sadly, the "kid dies when left in the hot car by asshole parent" story is one that runs far too often in this country. I'm quite sure the major majority of these fucked up stories are not due to the shithead parent smoking marijuana.

Now they do this after Montana growers have been convicted

Also in Colorado
Colorado Pot-Growers Clobbered by Moonbat Law

What moonbattery gives, moonbattery takes away. For example, marijuana is now legal in Colorado, due to the state’s lurch left. But don’t assume capitalist exploiters will be allowed to make money off the wacky weed:

A new law in Boulder, CO requires Medical dispensaries that grow any of their own product to offset 100% of the electricity they use to grow their plants with renewable energy.

If this means growing the plants under lamps powered by bicycle generators, at least the hippies will stay in shape.

First houndawg doesn't understand what sarcasm means, now you don't understand hypocrisy. It would be hypocritical of me to actively use, produce and lobby for the legalization of another illegal substance. Kinda like the people who actively use, produce and lobby for the legalization of pot, but think crack should be illegal.

Lord this forum is ridiculous...
Say what you mean and mean what you say

Facts:
1) Pot is less dangerous than alcohol based on user actions / Period end of debate
2) The War on Drugs is a failed exercise / we all can agree on that
3) Marijuana can be taxed and managed just like booze / States profit / Fact

If south Carolina can make billions on Tobacco (far more addictive and a huge cancer causing agent) causing the deaths of millions of humans a year / funded by all of us who pay for Healthcare then Washington should be able to proceed with the processing and taxing of Marijuana

The right wing looney tunes squad needs to EXTRACT their heads from their asses
Jesus hasn't said anything about pot / Let it go

Marijuana is fine to proceed no different than Alcohol
I am NOT arguing it's values other than the above stated

Heck, only bout 4 million in US die every year, and you claim tobacco kills millions. :dunce:

Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death.
Worldwide, tobacco use causes more than 5 million deaths per year, and current trends show that tobacco use will cause more than 8 million deaths annually by 2030
Cigarette smoking is responsible for about one in five deaths annually (i.e., more than 440,000 deaths per year, and an estimated 49,000 of these smoking-related deaths are the result of secondhand smoke exposure).1,2
On average, smokers die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers
