Re: POS Alert - US Soldier "waterboards" 4-year old daughter

You aren't trying to suggest that a parent has the right to torture a child are you? There are limits as to how a parent can discipline a child. Who, other than the government, is going enforce those limits? Who defines "torture?" Why should government be empowered to determine what the l...

Re: Prosecution and defense: Leveling the playing field

Okay, but if a person is CONVICTED of the crime, then they should have to pay all the costs of the prosecution. Though a good percentage of criminals are unemployed schmucks who will never actually pay those expenses anyway, so that's not fair. If a person is convicted they will pay a price. I thin...

Prosecution and defense: Leveling the playing field

As we all know, the prosecution in a criminal case almost always has an advantage in terms of resources over the defendant. The State almost always has more resources to devote to prosecution than the defendant has to devote to defense. In most cases, the imbalance is extreme. Many people lack the r...

Re: POS Alert - US Soldier "waterboards" 4-year old daughter

Guys, the bottom line is that as soon at you say government has any say at all about how children are socialized...including the aspect of discipline...you are adopting the premise that government supercedes parents with respect to responsibility for and/or authority over children. I think that is a...

After reading this post, had I not known you better I would think you were Pro-choice I anticipated that response; which is why I edited to include the idea of definite and demonstrable permanent physical harm. However, if there is any hypocrisy on my part, it is certainly exceeded by that practice...

Re: POS Alert - US Soldier "waterboards" 4-year old daughter

What I'm about to say has nothing to do with the question of whether he's a soldier or not. I think the society would be better off if it stayed the $%@! out of the relationship between parents and children. Yes, there would be horrible abuses as there are in any case. But we'd all be better off if ...

Tracy Porter, Super Bowl Hero, had no Rivals stars

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/r ... rter-28313

You know, that guy with the pick six in the Super Bowl. I was clued into the fact that he wasn't highly regarded in the recruiting services by listening to a Sports Talk radio interview with his High School coach.

Re: Super Bowl XLIV

I wish I'd said it on this board earlier but I told my wife earlier today that, from what I saw in the admittedly little I watched NFL football this year, the Saints were by far the best team when they played their best game. The problem is that they were inconsistent. But the single most impressive...

Also cool to see a guy from here in the Baton Rouge metro area (Port Allen) make the big essentially game clinching play on that pick six.

Cell phones won't work where I live right now. Circuits are busy. Cant' reach my daughter. Can't reach my son who is staying at a hotel in the French Quarter. Was at Pat O'Caroll's to watch the game.

Re: 10 top fcs recruiting classes of 2010

3 championships, 5 semifinals, and 8 playoff appearances in the 2000's. When we look back at each decade it goes 1980s - GSU, 1990's - YSU, 2000's - ASU. Championships define the programs of the decade. Well, regardless...the main thing is that Montana is certainly up there as a consistent long ter...

Re: 10 top fcs recruiting classes of 2010

ASU was the best program of the 2000's It kind of depends on how one defines "best program." Most successful in terms of numbers of national championships; certainly. But in terms of consistly fielding playoff caliber teams it was Montana. Another little stat: During the 2000s, Montana wa...

Re: 10 top fcs recruiting classes of 2010

I think the Montana guys make a good point. To my recollection Montana is never on lists of top recruiting classes that are constructed through use of stars assigned by recruiting services. But over time Montana is arguably the top I-AA/FCS program. If you take the last five years maybe #2 behind Ap...

Re: Armanti Edwards had 2 Stars

See my response to your comment in the "no stars" thread. I guess if we are going to go by Scout the next question is, where would he have been ranked as a quarterback among I-AA (I think it was still that then) quarterback recruits at the time? My guess is not in the top 20.

Wrong. AE had 2 stars as per Scout.com. http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=1789564 Before proclaiming someone had no stars check BOTH Rivals and Scout. Good GRIEF. I said that "Rivals" didn't think he was good enough to have any stars. I guess I could've en...

Armanti Edwards had no RIVALS stars

Armanti Edwards wasn't thought desirable enough by Rivals to have any stars:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/r ... ards-36897

He wasn't considered a "quarterback" either.

Just something to keep in mind while we're judging recruiting classes based on how many stars recruits have.

People, all other things aside, the overwhelming majority of adolescents today know about birth control. The overwhelming majority of the kids at the high school I graduated from in 1975 knew about it. Knowing about condoms and availability of condoms is not a problem and hasn't been for like 40+ ye...

The key line reflecting what I always look for when a study is announced is this: "These findings are based on a randomized controlled experiment." I'd still like to see the details of the design but at least it's not an observational study...which is usually what the case is when studies ...

Re: Homosexual campaign: Could someone explain this?

Just because 2 women love each other does not mean that shouldn't have the oppurtunity to be married. They are not equating a Gay marriage to a Straight Marriage. They want the equal oppurtunity. Again, there is no denial of equal opportunity involved. Once marriage is defined however it's defined ...
